Chris Cuomo accurately Twittered yesterday that Jackson's death would be the top media story for the next three days.
It's been a stormy day in my area and I've been housebound as a result. I've had it with radio, TV and internet coverage of this thing.
He's dead. We're not gonna bring him back. Let him rest in peace.

Posted: 6/26/09 at 5:24pmPlease. Remember how much coverage there was on Anna Nicole Smith? I already have a stack of DVDs at the ready to avoid at least a month of nonstop TV Jacksonomania.

I'm seriously considering getting into Wimbledon just so I have something to read at BBC News. It's terrifically sad, and the world will not see his like again, but we all know he's dead, so let's have something else as the top news story, eh?
And I freakin' HATE tennis. XP Maybe I'll just go through the Iran stuff again instead...

Posted: 6/26/09 at 5:35pmI have been reading about it.. but avoiding all other coverage. I have been playing his music.. and to me that is the best way to deal with his passing.

I hope not, Mister Matt. Someone who touches the music world in the same way he has, sure. Everything else? I SINCERELY hope not. :/

I do not think Jesus Christ would get so much air time as he has.

Posted: 6/26/09 at 5:46pmI agree, Weez. Michael Jackson has touched us all. Most of us were just too young to remember.

Is it wrong if I say that his death doesn't affect me?
I mean, I cried over Brando's death and was very upset for a few days following Natasha Richardson's passing.
it's not that I don't care - obviously I'm concerned for his family and friends, as losing someone to a heart attack is traumatic and my own father has gone through multiple heart surgeries.
But I don't know... his death just doesn't really make me upset.

Posted: 6/26/09 at 6:03pmI cried listening to Gone Too Soon this morning. It may be silly, but it's effecting me a lot more than I ever would have imagined. Everyone is different, I suppose.

Same here. I just always had a sneaking suspicion that Liz & Liza would outlast him.

The usually responsible World News Tonight is devoting almost the whole program to Jackson.
Help!

Of course.
Whether or not I'm a fan won't keep me from praying for the family, friends or fans.

Posted: 6/26/09 at 6:29pmI totally agree that this is way overdone. CNN makes me want to vomit. I'm avoiding it when I flip channels. Hell, there wasn't this much SH*T when Elvis died.

There were not as many news outlets when Elvis died. There was no internet when Elvis died. There was no twitter, Facebook, or Myspace. No PDA's and no Iphones. The world was not as small when Elvis died.

Posted: 6/26/09 at 6:38pmDame, no kidding? I'm well aware of that, but even in Memphis, which was obsessed with the whole thing, the papers and local news weren't as over the top as this. I ought to know. I was there.
#19re: Enough with the Michael Jackson Stories Already!
Posted: 6/26/09 at 6:42pmI don't think the country was as obsessed with celebrity as they are now.

And they were not as obsessed with celebrity because we didn't have all those things.
Plus.....I know many of you will disagree with me on this... Michael Jackson ( to me) was a bigger international star than Elvis was.

Posted: 6/26/09 at 7:40pmElvis died shortly after I was born, so I didn't know his impact until after the fact. I know my mom cried that day. I am still baffled by the amount of Elvis merchandise I see everywhere. Who would come to NYC and buy an Elvis clock?!

DAME - I tend to agree that Michael had more of an international impact.

Don't worry, Dollypop. I'm sure it will be this big a deal to everyone when Carol Channing dies.
(Or did she die already?)
