The main reason I'm going to New York next month is to look for entry-level jobs in the entertainment/media industry. I've got some experience in front of the camera, but more experience behind. Can anyone point me in the right direction for sites and contacts to look at? I'm mostly interested in assisting directors, producers, PR execs, etc. in film/TV or theatre or in the legal department. The biggest hurdle, I think, will be finding a place that will hire me and be willing to go through the red tape to get me a work visa.
I'm about to have a panic attack.

I'm guessing you've already tried Monster, but I've seen PA jobs there before. Playbill lists theater-related jobs, too. Good luck, Tiff. And if things don't work out I'll share the refrigerator box I'll live in once I graduate with my oh-so-marketable BA in English. :)

I'm holding you to that! Otherwise expect a weary-looking Asian on your London flat in a month or so!

There's room on the floor...if I clean it. But hey, it's not like Canada is totally lacking in entertainment jobs if the visa thing doesn't work out, right? I might prefer living in a box for a while to dealing with INS again.

You may also see if New York's film commission has a website that regularly posts upcoming productions that need jobs and such.
Good idea, Cruel. I think it may need a membership though. I keep my eye out on the Vancouver DGC list for the same reasons. I just don't think they'd hire people from out of the country to do a job that a local is qualified for. But thanks for the advice!
Tiff, look at the Mayor's Office of Film and Television website. They have a weekly thing called the Tech List, which lists all the productions filming in NYC and cast and crew that they're hiring. I did a bunch of PA work right after college using this site, and I had zero prior experience.
It's a PDF file that they update weekly.
