I'm doing a survey for class and I need to know whether you are for or against PAS(physician assisted suicide) Thank you for your help. Updated On: 10/31/04 at 12:44 AM
I don't understand your question but I sure as hell don't like the topic
could you give more details on PAS?
edited to say thanks for changing the title...
I want to recommend you a movie, it's called "Mar adentro", and is from the spanish director of "the others" with nicole kidman.
The movie it's about a real person who was in bed and wanted to die. His assistant provide him a glass full of poison, and he drink by himself the poison (he just have momevement in his head).it was VERY important on the news when it happened
It's an incredible movie, and the main actor is Javier Bardem. I don't know if the movie has been released yet in the states.
Also known as euthanasia, physician assisted suicide is only legal in The Netherlands, Beligium, and the state of Oregon and it is when it's legal for a person to obtain lethal medications and kill themselves if they wish. Most people who use this option are very old, sick, depressed, in a lot of pain, or do not wish to continue living for whatever reason.
Thank you very much for that recomendation. I will search tah movie now.

Too complex a subject for a yes or no answer. And how valid is a survey without background on the participants?
omg, I saw the title of this thread, and I thought you wanted to commit suicide! ok, silly me...well, I'm against it. I think any kind of suicide is wrong...people are here for a reason!
a good website
It's called waiting until the last minute to do an assignment. I can get some information though.
I believe if that if I was faced with the choice of never-ending physical pain and euthanasia, I would take euthanasia
I do not however believe in suicide and have unfortunately had more than a few people in my family take their own lives.
Please please PLEASE, if you are even considering suicide, call for help.
Life is too short already and there are people who love you.

It's not a valid survey at all, so far from science I would expect George W. Bush to be conducting it.
In fact, asking people a question on a message board doesn't technically count as a survey at all, just the generation of a self-selected sample.
bronx, may I suggest chaning your title to
euthanasia: for or against
?
The controversy I have found is that it could be considered a violation of constitutional rights not to allow a person to kill themselves.
Thank you for changing the title...
That link was a dud for me.
Yeah, I don't think I'm going to be able to count this info here as part of the survey but I'm still looking for some editorializing on it because I don't think it is a subject that is talked about a lot.
I just worry about the youth in America. Asia can handle their own.
I literally laughed out loud on that one. Thank you!
Anytime Bronx.
how to lighten the topic...

I am the survivor of a very serious suicide attempt (involving 3 months physical thearapy and more than a year of psychotherapy,) so my opinion does not come from a place of no experience. I find it interesting that anyone would consider telling another person they must stay alive - no matter the circumstances - because they have a problem with the concept of suicide. It is no one's business but your own how or even if you live your life. I therefore am a firm believer in assisted suicide, as long as the choice is your own. It simply provides access to humane means.
Thank you for sharing that. And you stil believe in it. That means more.

Also look into reading Last Easter. I'm not sure if the script is available, but it deals with this topic.

It seems somewhat selfish to want to keep someone alive when they don't want to be. So yes, I'm for it, although it would be hard if a loved one chose it.
Aside from the moral standpoint, BBE, you've also got to consider the logistics and legalities if you propose that we change current legislation to allow euthanasia. What if a person cannot verbally consent? Or even if he/she can verbally consent, they're not of "sound mind"? How do we determine who can die and who can't?
I'm only familiar with Canadian case law, but you should look up the canadian case of R. v. Latimer (1993). Brief summary - A father killed his handicapped daughter who wasn't dying but was in a lot of pain. The courts had to deal with the constitutional issues, etc but in the end, the Supreme Courtof Canada ruled against the defendant and he wasconvicted of second degree murder. It's the current case law in Canada for this type of issue. It'll be really helpful, if you can't find the American equivalent.
