That's a voice from Heaven. It isn't learned or acquired. You can't buy it or fake it. It's the voice of truth and honesty.
Thanks for sharing it, Dame. Such a tragedy she was taken from us so soon. I'm just glad we have her music now. Our chance to get to know the artist and the person a little bit.
She's one of those rare singers... like Karen Carpenter... or Mama Cass... or Ella Fitzgerald...
When I hear that voice, I believe in magic.

One of my favorites:

Because of Garland's definitive version of "Rainbow," it's hard for me to listen to anyone else sing the song.
They usually get "gonged" before they're halfway finished.
In fact there are only two other singers I enjoy singing this song: Ella Fitzgerald (from the Harold Arlen Song Book)... and Eva Cassidy.

So haunting.
I would like to reccomend Rachel Yamagata's new double cd to any Cassidy fans. It's steeped in beautiful melancholy, and the second cd is instrumental.
Just gorgeous.

Eva's first few notes made me cry.
Here is the beginning: Edith Piaf herself singing the song (slides, no video), first in English, then in the original French.

Just have to throw this into the mix, because it's one of my favorite songs ever.
And she is . . . well, who she was.

Saw this on a site of hers, and just had to share:
"Support the hardworking musicians in your area by attending live performances. Go out to the little clubs and restaurants that offer live music, and if you like what you hear, tell the performers! Clap long and loud! And if they're selling CDs and tapes from their guitar cases, as Eva once did, support their talents and efforts that way too. As someone once wrote in the Guestbook, "There will never be another Eva Cassidy, but there will be someone else."
