Evolution avoided in Imax theaters
NEW YORK, NY, Mar. 19 (UPI) -- About a dozen U.S. Imax movie theaters are shying away from showing science movies that mention the Big Bang theory or evolution.
Although the number of theaters rejecting such films is small, industry insiders say because only a few dozen Imax theaters routinely show science documentaries, losing more than 10 theaters can really impact the documentary's bottom line, the New York Times reported Saturday.
However, a number of factors affect a theater manager's decision about playing a movie, for example, a documentary about oil fires in Kuwait never reached distribution potential because of shots of dead bodies during the first Persian Gulf war.
"The theaters decided their patrons would be upset at seeing the bodies," said Bayley Silleck, who wrote and directed "Cosmic Voyage."
"We all have to make films for an audience that is a family audience, when you are talking about Imax, because they are in science centers and museums."
This country is rapidly heading to another dark ages thanks to the Christian Taliban.
I have no desire to see the Big Bang on any screen - especially @ $ 15 a pop for IMAX. The "Christian Taliban" not withstanding

Gee, not even if they put it onscreen at one of your beloved motion picture palaces??????

Just to let you know I am not ignoring you but have changed my settings to block my viewing of your posts. No matter how witty you may think you are, it will be for naught as I do not see them anymore. I should have done this awhile ago.Take care
Missed you @ the BWW gettogether today. I had my picture taken a few times despite your claim I was afraid of cameras. Mirrors yes as I am, as we all know, a vampire
Double post - sorry
i don't think it said you see the big bang, it's only mentioned. in other words, your typical eighth grade "earth science" textbook is too contraversial for the big screen. i can see how actually watching the process of the allegid big bang might be hard to watch, but just mentioning it? doesn't seem so bad. unless your comment was suppossed to be a double entandre re the words "big bang" and i took you too seriously.
What a pity -- the Big Bang would make an awesome Imax film. The multimedia presentation at the Museum of Natural History (narrated by Mya Angelou!) is entertaining enough.
