in general, all organized religions make entirely too much of our sexuality, homo or hetero, teaching us to be ashamed of it.
what we should instead be teaching our children is our best understanding of the truth. which is as follows.
we are highly evolved primates. like all other forms of life which have existed on this planet, we have strong reproductive urges that happens on a cyclical basis (all those times when you inexplicably really have to get off). this instinct is literally millions of years old, dating back to the genesis of life itself. the reason for this intense urge to reproduce is simple, though we have forgotten: generally speaking, mortality amongst all species is terrible. watch any nature documentary to see that no matter how cute some mammal is, it's just meat in nature, and very often < 50% survive to adulthood. the only way for life to proceed was to produce in excess (which is reflected, btw, in male physiology, which produces millions of sperm per ejaculate) in order to beat the odds.
in other words, nature gives us strong sexual urges because it wants us to reproduce. it wants us to make progeny because it doesn't "know" that we have evolved beyond that particular need, that we have "beaten" the usual mortality curve. all humans of sexual maturity need healthy outlets for their sexual tensions, and the way organized religion ask us to suppress it is like asking people not to defecate or urinate for their entire lives, as it is literally a need, a function, an instinct, that is millions of years old. hysterical, unwarranted, and ignorant, with the results as seen in catholic church orphanages worldwide: "no child's behind left."
