On the one hand, my reaction is "130 people isn't *that* many," but on the other hand, I use Zicam all the time, and apparently should cut down my usage...
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today advised consumers to stop using three products marketed over-the-counter as cold remedies because they are associated with the loss of sense of smell (anosmia). Anosmia may be long-lasting or permanent.
The products are:
--Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel
--Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs
--Zicam Cold Remedy Swabs, Kids Size (a discontinued product)
The FDA has received more than 130 reports of loss of sense of smell associated with the use of these three Zicam products. In these reports, many people who experienced a loss of smell said the condition occurred with the first dose; others reported a loss of the sense of smell after multiple uses of the products...

I used to use it all the time 'cause I loved the way it smelled! But lately I think they switched to an "Unscented" formula. It doesn't small at all any more

Posted: 6/16/09 at 5:06pmI know, right? You just KNOW Obama stole those people's sense of smell and is trying to point the finger at Zicam.

Yeah Goth, that is exactly why the FDA put out a warning!
Jesus, I wonder if there is a drug people who have persecuted conspiracy theory paranoia should take?

I'm sure it's a vast conspiracy.
Or maybe it's this.

Posted: 6/16/09 at 5:47pmSeriously, though, do you have any clue how the FDA and other administrative agencies work? Read a freaking book. I recommend A Question of Intent, which was one book I had to read when I studied administrative law for an entire semester. There is no universe in which getting a drug banned by the FDA is a simple process.
