FEMA Chief Relieved of Katrina Duties

Could not happen soon enough:

"WASHINGTON - Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown is being removed from his role managing Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, The Associated Press has learned.

Brown is being sent back to Washington from Baton Rouge, where he was the primary official overseeing the federal government's response to the disaster, according to two federal officials who declined to be identified before the announcement.

Brown will be replaced by Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad w. Allen, who was overseeing New Orleans relief and rescue efforts."

Who makes this decision? If it is Bush is it an acknowledgment of his failure as a President to appoint people who are qualified for the position?
PEACE.

Yes. People who disagree with him. Like the guy from the Army Corps of Engineers who pointed out in public that their slashed funding and diversions in Iraq were going to make it impossible for them to do their jobs in places like New Orleans. He was given thirty minutes to resign or be fired.

"Asked if he was being made a scapegoat for a federal relief effort that has drawn widespread and sharp criticism, Brown told The Associated Press after a long pause: "By the press, yes. By the president, No."

By the Press, by the American People, by Snowball, the long lost dog, by . . . everyone.

You people are so critical. I mean, what's wrong with a little specilization? We need to plan for every kind of threat. So if terrorists opt to strap a dity bomb to an Arabian horse and send him into Time Square, well, at least we'll know who's on board to handle it, won't we?

Yeah, they just announced they wanted him in DC to stay on top of future storms.

Hurricane Flicka?

(I know, enough already.) But please, no one is fooled by this non-firing firing. Why should we keep paying this bozo, however? And did everyone see Chertoff bristle when a reporter asked about his resume padding?

Chertoff's Nosferatu demeanor looked even creepier than usual.
