So, as many of you may or may not know...I go to school in Washington, DC...even though I only live half an hour out of NYC...why I came down here...I don't know. But, back to the story.
A friend of mine interns for the PR company handling Nicole Kidman's new movie "The Visiting" which is filming in DC. There was a casting call for extras about a month ago which she told me about and we went to on a whim, not expecting anything. It basically consisted of waiting on an extremely long line to fill out a form and turn in a photo of ourselves. When we left...I expected not to hear from them again.
Well, to my surprise, two weeks ago I got a call from the agency asking me to work on November 1st...today. I gladly accepted and went for a costume fitting in Baltimore. And today I was all excited to go to the shoot.
I can't tell you too much about the movie or the scene...other than it is an updated version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"...in fact, the film was previously called "Invasion" until the tv-series came out which caused the company to change the movie title.
But, suffice it to say, the shoot was from 4pm and lasted until 2:30 am. And we got out EARLY. Before we even started shooting, I really had to go to the bathroom. But, having never done any work like this, I didn't want to use the porta-potties that were set up by the production staff, as I felt I wasn't allowed to use them. But, after a while, it became too much of a nuisance. So, during one of the breaks between shoots I ran to the porta-potties. I reach to open the door, and before I get to it, out walks...none other than NICOLE KIDMAN.
I was dumbfounded. She is gorgeous in person and VERY tall and thin. There was a guy waiting outside for her to squirt some anti-bacterial lotion in her hands. I couldn't say a word. I was in awe. She smiled at me and I couldn't eeek out a damn word. And I almost never get star struck.
I also got to see her when we got our dinner break at about 11pm. When we were sent for food, I was one of the first people told so I got there before the crowd did. And, as I was scooping my pasta salad into my plate, there...across the table from me...again...was Nicole Kidman. Again, I said nothing. I forgot how to form words. She's just a very beautiful woman and very nice. The company had a room set up for us where we all ate. The director, the actors and all the extras ate together. I got to talk to Nicole's body double who is really nice. I had a moment with Daniel Craig (Nicole's co-star)...we both couldn't seem to find where the cafeteria was. I also ate at the table adjacent from Jeffrey Wright, whom you may remember from the "Angels in America" HBO mini-series.
All in all it was a very fun night. I'm exhausted, but I got to meet Nicole Kidman and I now have something to add to my resume. Hopefully I'll be called to do another scene before shooting is over.
Just felt I should share this story.

Posted: 11/2/05 at 7:17amCongratulations, FOAnatic! Sounds like a wonderful experience! (Nicole Kidman not only takes a poop like one of us, but uses a portapotty? Dude, even I wouldn't touch that.) How was catering and craft services?

Posted: 11/2/05 at 4:57pmIt's perfectly fine to put extra work on your resume, but limit it to no more than three listings. It's good for directors/casting directors to see that you've been on a set.
