Saw a trailer for the American remake of the Michael Haneke's film?
At first I didn't know what to make of it, then read that it was a film which is meant to criticize cinematic violence. Just the ad freaked the hell out of me.
Has anyone seen Haneke's original version, or the new one? What's it like? I've heard the American version is a scene-by-scene remake.
Most importantly, would somebody mind runining the ending? I don't think I can sit through that kind of movie without knowing the result in advance. Feel free to ruin it via PM.
I've seen the trailer a few times. And I've read some stuff on the original.
It sounds bit too disturbing for me, but my curiousity might make me see it.
What is with all the threads about movies that have "give me the ending please". Why do you need to know the ending of this or CLOVERFIELD? Sorry if I sound holier-than-thou but it seems to me to be counterproductive to a work of art not to mention just plan-old storytelling.
The DVD of FUNNY GAMES has been available for years. Rent it. Trust me, its a disturbing unpleasant ride you'll only want to go on once whether you know the end or not. As for the surprises, I ain't sayin' ONE WORD.

Gee, thanks Taz...now I know the ending to GARFIELD 2. Dammit! That movie has now been totally ruined for me!
you're like a spoiler nazi borstal. I really think people make way to big a deal about them in the first place.
If a movie is good it probably has to do with a lot more than just the ending, and if it sucks who cares anyway.
But that's just me. I do get amused at folks who freak out b/c the "found out" how a story ends.
The original Funny Games is worth watching once. It's definitely not a Hollywood movie.
The original Funny Games is one of the most disturbing movies I have ever sat through.
Zum Halten bringen spoilers!

Hopefully, I will be able to have a double feature of the original one and the new one in one day.
Usually, I'm not too big a fan of remakes, especially shot-by-shot ones, but I think the fact that Michael Haneke actually wanted to make this in a different language with different actors must have been a fascinating experience.

The most interesting thing about the original version is all the violence actually happen out of sight, just like most old school thrillers. What make it different is not about the violence or the evil guys(I find them too abstract to be scared),but the fact the audience never get to realize their expectation or redeem their feeling. I don't call it disturbing, just a little uncomfortable,an intellect games for thriller movie fans.
