Do you share the same views as your family?? And has it ever gotten ugly at a family occasion??
For me I steer clear.... Most my family is extremly conservative (Mormon) and with my Uncle Tom being the U.S. Attourney...... I figure there is no point in arguing!I think that when someone believes a certain way,and thier religion is the big thing driving thier views, there is no convincing.

Oh hon--I wouldn't even bother.
My parents are very old-fashioned, patriotic, "don't criticize the Pres" types.
But at the same time, my mom forwards me emails of half-naked NYC firemen, so go figure.
I say and think what i like and if they don't like it, they can kiss my a$$. And they'd say the same thing to me about my views. Works out fine.

My family and I are pretty much on the same page politically.
I respect all of their opinions, as they do mine.
But more often than not they're the same.
And we discuss politics all the time.

Posted: 5/2/08 at 4:50pmPolitics has never been such a big deal in my family but religion is a different story.
My sister is a devout Christian who left the Catholic Church because she believed it to be too rigid and hypocritical. My mom is a Catholic who hasn't missed a Sunday mass or holy day obligation yet but really only does it out of habit. I'm agnostic and my dad only goes to church to please my mom and take a nap.
I've learned to steer away from talking about religion, especially when my sister is in the room.

Here's the trick. My family and I RARELY agree on something political. However, the point is respecting opinions. so, their opinion is valid -- and you need to understand and respect how a thinking person could think that way.
My family may disagree, but we love each other around those issues.

Nothing is ever worth discussing with my family. My grandparents are so old fashioned, and sort of racist still. I understand it is just their generation, but it still bothers me to no end. They will never listen or change ever.
My parents are just really religious. They are an odd couple. It just seems like anything that is normal today, is wrong to them.
And at least with 2 of my 3 sisters, anything against what they say is totally wrong.
I wouldn't have a problem with everyone's opinions, if we all weren't so one sided, and didn't put each other down or tell each other that the other person is full of crap or whatever. I personally don't do that, but that is a reason why I rarely chime in when the rest of them are arguing.

I'm way too intimidating to my family to discuss anything besides the weather and funny stories growing up.
However, I was very happy to hear my grandparents are voting for Hillary and are very excited about it.
