For those that have fathers: What do you get/do for them?
For those that are fathers: What do you receive for your special day?
For those that have lost their fathers: What do you remember about them most?
I need an idea for something to get my dad- who never wants ANYTHING.
That includes
- tools
- gift certificate
- clothes
....
I'm up to the point where I may just get him a card.

Mostly I remember that he died at 67 of liver cancer, after a lifetime of alcoholism.
Yay for Father's Day.

i'm going to go to o'rielys and get something for my dad. he's irish and this is an irish gift shop. i might get him these guiness slippers i saw last time i was there.
i'm planting flowers to remember my grandfathers. my cousin's wife's family gave me some things shaped like hearts that if you plant them, they grow into wild flowers... kind of like a small piece of paper with seeds in it.

Posted: 6/8/07 at 10:46pmThe best gift for my dad this year would be for him to be out of the hospital up here in New York and happily ensconced in his house in Florida.

My dad passed away about three years ago, but every Father's Day I would take him to his favorite Mexican restaurant, and let him order what he wanted, share a couple of cold beers with him, and just talk (and of course pick up the bill).
Sometimes, I would also go shooting with him at a local gun range (he was a gun collector).
Now that he is gone, those lunches seem priceless.
If possible, spend time with him, and actually talk to him.

Rath - I'm sorry. It can not have been easy for you.
SweetQ - maybe photographs of some sort? I have a Mac and have just discovered how much fun it is to put a "book" of digital pictures together, and then have Apple print it up. If you have a PC, you can probably take digital photos to your local photography store and get a booklet or montage put together. Apple charges about $10 for soft cover (like a pamphlet) with twenty pages, and $29.99 for a hard cover book. You would have to do it right away as it takes 3 to 5 business days after you submit online. But the results are amazing!

Aww...Rath, I'm sorry.
YWIW, I can't spend it with him because I am at college (in FL) and he is in PA.
Keen: "Men are just impossible to "buy" for!"
Isn't that the truth!
I don't have any pictures here because they are all back home in PA.
I almost feel that I'd be "throwing away" the money if I get him something. (Of course, I'd get a card)
I get an allotted amount of money from my parents per month for college and basically, that's the money I'd be spending anyways for him. Granted, it's for me and what I need here but...I'm more or less giving it back to him/wasting it.

I'm very sorry to hear that Rath...:'(
Sweet Q-I usually just take my dad out. He picks the restaraunt and an activity or two-usually something like a movie or a trip to the casino. My dad is the ultimate doesn't want or need anything (plus anything he wants he'll just go out and buy himself.)

Posted: 6/9/07 at 1:00amYWIW, that was a very sweet thing to say. It made me think of things that I don't want to but reminded me as well of how precious everything we do with our family and friends are. I'll take the advice for this Father's Day indeed.

Sweet, the day is about him, not you.
if he drinks coffee, go to Kimocoffee.com and send him 100% Kona
if he likes chocolate, josephschmidt.com
or, go to the Zaber's website, and send him something
if he likes tea, englishteastore.com
all men eat, all men drink coffee or tea. People make this holiday so difficult. It does not have to be
