I love health food:
1.All of the organic produce at Westerly Health Foods.
2.Vermont Sprouted Wheat Bread
3.Tibetan Goju Berries
4.Irish Moss smoothie from Quintessence with irish moss, ginger, wheatgrass, young coconut milk.
5.Boiron Oscillococcinum flu remedy- knocked the flu out of me in 2 days. AMAZING.
6.Singer's Saving Grace throat spray.
7.Lots and lots of organic extra virgin olive oil. Yum.

OK, I must tell you that most of that stuff would have to be coated in A LOT of chocolate for me to eat it, but who makes the throat spray and what does it contain? (probably not chocolate, huh?)

I really like to snack on edamame. They are so addictive.

I tried those edaname things once, thought they were kind of bitter. Again, dipping them chocolate might have helped.
Singer's Saving Grace- cannot remember the company name, but if you ask for it by name at a health food store, they'll know it. Westerley on 8th Ave and 54th has it.
It tastes awful but I cannot tell you how great it is. Really lubricates the chords.
Oh here- http://www.hbees.com/sisagr.html
Obviously we want to avoid strain on the voice- but sometimes it creeps in.
I swear by Naked juice drinks. I'm sure thats how I haven't gotten sick this year. And chocloate Odwalla bars, yum!
Props to Odwalla! Love the stuff. Esp. the blueberry juice.

Love4 - thanks for the site. It even comes in flavors, so it can't taste all that bad (can it?). Interesting that the guy who makes it is French Canadian - so am I. I'll see if I can get a "family discount"!
Actually, it really CAN taste that bad. A couple of the herbs included are FUNKY. There are a few board members who also use it and we all agreed- it's a great product with a heinous taste.
But I def. recommend it and I usually use a couple of sprays 5 mins before an audition.
Hope you like it!
Tofu cooked any way with anything! When you don't eat meat, it's kind of a staple.

There's a nearby vegetarian Chinese restaurant that makes mock chicken and beef dishes that are incredible. I swear, some are better than "the real thing". You'd never know you were eating tofu.
munk- I love tempeh. I seriously think it's delicious and people think I'm crazy.
I used to be a veggie, so tofu and tempeh were my staples. And miso soup.
But there was a piece of sushi with my name on it, and it went downhill from there.
Ah, tofu. I was a vegetarian for 15 years. I just started eating meat again two years ago.
bluemoon: are you talking about Zenith?

No - I'm not in NYC, I'm D.C. But I get up to NYC 3-4 times a year, so I'm intrigued - where's Zenith?
There's also Zen Palate- several locations around the city. They make all of the mock meat dishes.
One place i LOVE is Quintessence- it's all Living and Raw foods. So nothing is cooked above 102 degrees, and most things are raw, so that the enzymes are intact when you eat them. And the food is delicious. Alas, it's strictly vegan.

Raw? Really? And it's good? Sounds interesting and I'm ususally game for anything once, but raw? Really?
Zenith is on 48th btw. 8 and 9, and it's AMAZING. It's a Japanese restaurant as well, so you have to specify whether you want the regular menu or the Zenith menu, which is 100% cruelty free - everything is vegan. It really is remarkable - you'd neve know you weren't eating chicken, pork, duck, etc.
If you go to a good raw foods restaurant, you'll be surprised at how tasty it is. It's basically all vegetables and some unusal ingredients they use for texture- chick pea miso (don't ask), soaked nuts, cauliflower for creaminess (really).
The lifestyle is incredibly healthy, but a pain in the a** to prepare all the time. The people I know who are on it look phenomenal- glowing skin, clear eyes, etc.

OK - I am really getting hungry now and veggie is sounding very, very good. I'd rather eat it out than take all the time to chop, etc. Thanks to you both I know where I'm going to dinner tonight AND where I'm going in April when I next hit NY. Happy carrots to you both!
Isn't that what Demi Moore and Gwyneth Paltrow did? They called it a macro-biotic diet or something. (Maybe I'm totally wrong.)
Bluemoon- enjoy!
Gwyneth, Madonna, Demi did the macrobiotic thing, which is different. It's based on the idea of combining certain types of foods- they say certain foods complement each other. This is also vegetarian, but not vegan, and the food is cooked. A typical dish involves lots of lentils, steamed veggies, brown rice, barley tea, and lots of soybeans.
It's said to give you limitless energy, but a lot of people (one of my friends included) pack on at least 10 lbs from the high volume of carbs.

Barley tea, lots of soybeans AND 10 more pounds? What's not to like?
