Hey. I'm auditioning for my school's Comedy of Errors this fall, and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for good female monologues. I have general ideas but if you know of a great one (comedy), I'd love to know.

Hi,
Look into A midsummernights dream, the part of Helena, Pheobe from As You like it or Olivia from Twelth Knight. All shakespeare comedys.

Good Luck to you!

I did Viola from Twelfth Night. It was a good monologue. Also look into Much Ado About Nothing, my favorite Shakespeare. Either Hero or Beatrice (is that her name?, it's late and I'm tired) should have some good ones.

Since you're auditioning for a comedy do a comedy. Twelfth Night or What You Will has great ones for females especially Viola. Feste is a good character who could be either male or female(I've seen two females perform Feste and they were better than any males I've seen. No offense just an opinion). Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing. Taming of the Shrew for Katherine. As You Like It basically anything from Celia is great(I always tended to like Celia better than Rosalind) and Rosalind as well. Those are great plays with great speeches. Most any speech from any of the plays mentioned before mine and these ones are a few great plays to get speeches from and to read and act.

"The weight of this sad time we must obey, Speak what we feel, not what we ought to say. The oldest hath borne most; we that are young Shall never see so much, nor live so long"-Edgar in King Lear

I also played Viola in Twelfth Night. She has a great monologue about her confusion with Olivia falling in love with her which can show some different dynamics. The Two Gentlemen of Verona is also a good choice because it is one of Shakespeare's lesser known shows, hence not many girls will use these. Look at Julia's monologues and Sylvia's.

1. Hero: Much Ado About Nothing: Act 3- Scene 1
2. Phebe: As You Like It: Act 3- Scene 5
3. Helena: A Mid Summer Nights Dream: Act 1- Scene 1

does that help? Break a leg!
