I'm auditioning for some musical theatre courses soon and think my audition songs will probably be;
Angels, Punks and Raging Queens from Elegies
Not a Day Goes By from Merrily we Roll Along
Miss Byrd from Closer than Ever
Any opinions on these? It bothers me a lot that they were all written in the eighties, but I think apart from that they're fairly contrasting. Do you think it will matter that they're all from the same time period?

Yes I would definitely try and find smething more contrasting, not all from the same decade. Miss Byrd is pretty popular really. The Merrily nr is done but not overdone I believe and Elegies is pretty overdone.

Do you think that Miss Byrd is overdone then? Should I maybe avoid it? I do think that you should try not to do any obvious audition standards like "Defying Gravity" on "On My Own", but I didn't think any of these were that bad. I could maybe get rid of Elegies and do an older one instead of that...

Of the three, I've only heard Not A Day Goes By, which would be wonderful for an audition song.

Thanks! I think that may well be a definite. How about if I swapped Angels, Punks... for Shopping Around from Wish you Were Here?
