Fiddler on the Roof Costuming Question

I have a question about Fiddler on the Roof. I am playing the Constable, and the director said I could grow a beard if I wanted to, but it's not necessary. What is the usually done for this role? Thanks.

The Constable usually has some form of handlebar moustache, as fitting with the period and character.
