Dorothy Loudon.....just watched "Fifty Percent".............."The Leading Ladies". BRILLIANT! Broke my heart (again and again), I miss her.
I am so glad they got this on DVD.
Completely heartbreaking song. And the audience reaction is incredible!

Such a moving rendition. It usually brings tears to my eyes.
I get the same reaction whenever I watch it.
She pours her heart into that performance. And it shows.
I still have memory clips of her singing that in BALLROOM on Broadway.
Ah Glebb, I would have loved to see her sing it live. But the DVD version fills the bill. For me.
I'd rather have fifty percent of him
Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...
ANY percent of HIMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...
THAN.
ALL.
OF.
ANYBODY.
ELSE.
AT ALL!
She is incredible singing that song
Dorothy singing this song is a wonderful thing. The words to the song say it all.

I've had enough memories
And what great words they are...............
FIFTY PERCENT from "Ballroom"
I don't iron his shirts, I don't sew on his buttons
I don't know all the jokes he tells, or the songs he hums
Though I may hold him, all through the night
He may not be here when the morning comes.
I don't pick out his ties, or expect his tomorrows
But I feel when he's in my arms, he's where he wants to be
We have no memories, bittersweet with time
And I doubt if he'll spend New Year's Eve with me
I don't share his name, I don't wear his ring
There's no piece of paper saying that he's mine
But he say he loves me, and I believe it's true
Doesn't that make someone belong to you?
So I don't share his name, so I don't wear his ring
So there's no piece of paper saying that he's mine
So we don't have the memories, I have enough memories
I've washed enough mornings, I've dried enough evenings
I've had enough birthdays to know what I want
Life is anyone's guess, it's a constant surprise
You don't plan to fall in love, but when you fall, you fall
I'd rather have fifty percent of him, or any percent of him
Than all of anybody else at all

Truly one of the best performances in musical theatre history.
I never got a chance to see her acting live on stage, but from her recordings and this filmed performance, I can tell she was probably one of the most gifted musical theater actresses in Broadway history. What a magnificent rendition of the song, the climax (quoted by PalJoey) always gives me chill, she is not singing the song, she is performing and feeling the song.
Dorothy Loudon was one of my favorites. I love her singing that song. I saw her several times, but my favorite was seeing her do Driving Miss Daisy in Chicago. She was wonderful in that.
I never got to see her live, but my very first OBCR was ANNIE!
Actually the first time I learned of Dorothy Loudon was when I rented the DVD of Sondheim:A Celebration at Carnegie Hall where she performs a hilarous and brilliant number that combined "Losing My Mind" with "You Could Drive A Person Crazy." Ever since then, I've made a case to see/listen to anything this woman did.
Are there any other performances as moving. Let me know, because I would love to see them.
