So just wanted everyone to know that except for some smoke we were not affected by the fires here last night.
We had 70mph winds, and frankly I felt like Dorothy and that the house would take off.
Imagine me and Fenwyck in Oz....EEK.
100 homes could have been destroyed, but due to the guts and grit of the various desert fire departments not one home or life was lost! Lots of damage, but it could have been much worse.
I had fun getting a chaise lounge out of the pool, and Steve has an interesting story about a large rat that flew out of a palm tree, landed on its head (at the hotel he works at) and stared at him the rest of his shift, until someone moved it onto the grass.
The hotel had cinderblock walls blow down, and the cinderblocks landed in the pool.
We were lucky, as we were only without power for an hour. There are people still with out power as 4 poles went down near us.

It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story... AGATHA CHRISTIE, Life magazine, May 14, 1956

Holy crap - we didn't get any of that weather here. Glad everything seems to have turned out ok, in the end (except for cleanup, of course.)
