According to Drudge, the new Rolling Stones album comes out August 21, with a song addressed to Bush:

You call yourself a Christian, I call you a hypocrite.
You call yourself a patriot.
Well, I think your are full of sh*t!...
How come you're so wrong, my sweet neo-con?

"Applause begets applause in the theatre, as laughter begets laughter and tears beget tears." CLAYTON HAMILTON, "Theory of the Theatre" "I think theater ought to be theatrical ... you know, shuffling the pack in different ways so that it's -- there's always some kind of ambush involved in the experience. You're being ambushed by an unexpected word, or by an elephant falling out of the cupboard, whatever it is." TOM STOPPARD

As I remarked when I heard this, "There goes their record sales." It will be interesting to see if The Stones suffer the same fate as Springsteen who saw his record sales plummet after he campaigned for Kerry.

These old superstars charge $250+ a ticket and appeal to wealthy aging yuppies- the same people who are most likely to vote Republican. Let's see what happens. These Republicans don't like to be told they were wrong, especially by 'foreigners."

Interesting. I don't think the Stones are likely candidates for a tour designed to rock any campaigns, Republican or Democrat. But it ain't exactly the first political song they've ever done. Why, back when nobody cared about CIA (and Oliver North and the puppet masters of Ronald Reagan) funded death squads in Central America, Mick was doing the epic Undercover of the Night video. Sometimes, an ex-wife or two CAN teach us things.

On the other hand, I can't WAIT to send that quote to my Republican brother in law, with whom I saw the Stones on the last tour (and had to explain what each song was). He's the aforementioned rich type with the season football tickets and therefore first dibs on stadium concert tickets. He was LIVID that he had gone to see Bruce (first because I wasn't there to explain what the songs were that time and then because of Bruce FINALLY putting his ass on the line for a political cause). Such fun I'm gonna have with this one.

When did Bruce's album sales plummet? The Rising had been out over a year when he started making political comments during the tour, and Devils & Dust debuted at #1 when it was released this year.

So far, the only album controversy I heard about was that Starbucks wouldn't play D&D because of the Reno song--and that was about oral sex, not politics.

The only people boycotting Bruce are the same idiots who blast "Born in the USA" during their 4th of July barbecues because they think it's a patriotic song.

My favorite part of the Drudge item was that he called them the 'Strolling Bones' re: First Springsteen, Now Mick Jagger
