Florida State vs. Univ. of Miami?!?!!? HELP!

Which has a more experienced musical theatre program? I'm getting confused! I looked up information on each, but theyre websites make both look good.

Anyone know someone there or have heard about the program? I'd really appreciate it!

I've heard way more about Florida State. If I'm not mistaken, I recently heard that the daughter of Lucie Arnaz, and grandaughter of Lucille Ball either attends there now, or just recently graduated.

Lisa, why didn't you just ask me directly?? I've had FSU shoved down my throat my entire life. FSU has one of the "top five" musical theatre programs in the country. I'm basically working with their entire musical theatre department at SMT right now, and they're all amazing. I've also worked with alumni who've been extremely successful, like Greg Mills who was recently on Broadway in The Woman in White, and Chris Gleim who is now going on the JCS tour.

Plus it's a REAL school with AWESOME school spirit. (and one year Playboy named it the number one party school...haha). The town it's in and the campus is beautiful and the football games are awesome.

I didn't know you were considering it! That's so freaking awesome!

I agree. Florida State. I know Amanda Watkins, alumni from FSU, and she's been really successful. She actually went to high school a town over from me. She was on Broadway in Sweet Charity, Cats, some other things, and she just did that Stuck in the Zipper Concert Series. I miss you, Lisa!

FSU- I went to go see a show there two years ago and it was amazing and I was shocked at the talent of the students and it's a really cool campus and there is a lot of school spirit as others have said. And you can't beat the warm weather!

Lucie Arnaz's daughter, Katharine Luckinbill, did not attend Florida State. She was a student at the University of Miami. However, I would hope that no one would judge the merit of any program based on whether or not a celebrity or the relative of a celebrity attended.

Both FSU and UM have excellent MT programs. I am biased in favor of FSU. The program is intense and very well respected in the business. The Schools of Music and of Theatre, and the Department of Dance are considered to be among the best in the nation. The MT program is jointly run by the Schools of Music and Theatre and is supported by the Dance Department. The strength of the 3 departments makes FSU's MT program quite formidable. Juniors have the opportunity to spend a semester in London, if approved by the SOT faculty. FSU seniors present a yearly showcase in NYC and as of next year, the School of Theatre will also be doing a showcase in Los Angeles.

I would suggest taking a look at the threads dedicated to FSU and UM on the College Confidential website. Their discussion forum is the best source of info regarding college MT programs on the web.

FSU! It's like in the Top 10 Theater Universities or Colleges and is growing in succession every year. We recently had two Musical Theater students participate in the CBS Broadway Series and this year we're putting in Sweeney Todd and Urinetown. Also, we've had alumuni playwrights, actors, and techies come back and tell us how much value the education we get there is in comparison to other schools. I was in a workshop with playwright, Lisa Soland ,and she said that some of the most basic stuff you learn at FSU, in your "Intro to ____ " classes, most people won't know when you meet them after you get out there in the business. One of our recent graduates just got cast in "The Producers" tour too. We're getting up there!
