Focus on the Family Action Political Mailings#1

My partner received a mailing from Focus on the Family Action, the political activism wing of James Dobson's ministry. That was weird enough in itself, but what I found really scary and repulsive was that it included the name of the Republican state assembly candidate in his district.

This is probably some sort of form letter and they're inserting various candidates names depending on where the elections are, but the mere fact that the guy's name shows up on it send chills down my spine. So much of the national election has been based on guilt by association and while I would hope it's just an unhappy coincidence, it ain't looking good. To align yourself, even peripherally, with an organization as hateful and homophobic as Focus, makes me lose a ton of respect for the man in question.

Has anyone else received Focus mailings like this aligned to their local candidates?

I live in New York where Republican candidates for lesser offices don't always exist. Seriously, my Congressman (Nadler) polls between 85 and 90% every election.

More importantly, have you contacted this GOP candidate's office and expressed your concern that Focus on the Family Action is besmirching his/her reputation by including the candidate's name in one of their mailings?

Take the high road (at least at first) and say that you feel it will detract from the candidate's credibility if this association is not refused immediately as it must have been some mistake. See what happens.

Have fun with it. It is all you can do at this point.

Where are you?

I was hoping the candidate would have an email adress but he doesn't, so they'll get a call at some point before Tuesday. He's an incumbent and a homebuilder in upstate NY (Mohawk Valley) who gained some national attention when his company participated in a local "Extreme Makeover Home Edition."

The mailing had to do with gay marriage and activist Tim Gill's influence but I have such a virulent dislike of all things "Focus" that I just about exploded when I saw where the it orginated from.
