For Sound of Music Fans: Hotel Villa Trapp

The house the Von Trapp family lived in prior to escaping from the Nazis will open in July as a Hotel. This is not the house seen in the film (which was actually two houses).

The mansion in Rocky Horror is also a hotel now. I don't suppose the house in The Amityville Horror will ever be a bed-and-breakfast.

I've stayed at the Rocky Horror hotel -- if memory serves it's called Water Oakley, situated on the Thames near Windsor. I didn't stay in the main house but one of the outbuildings. It's a lovely place.

I stayed in the Von Trapp Hotel- the curtains in my room were all cut up, as if to make clothes out of them. What's up with that? I made sure to complain to Travelocity.

Not the same place, but I have stayed several times at the Trapp Family Lodge, in Vermont, where Maria is buried. It's a lovely place, and still run by Johannes von Trapp.

As this structure plays no part in The Sound of Music, I can't imagine why a fan of the film would be the least bit interested. I wonder if they're keeping the ugly wall that surrounds it?
