I hate to tell you, but TECHNICALLY, St. Patrick's Day doesn't exist this year. As Match 17th falls during Holy Week, it is not being observed. After all, it is only an "optional memorial".
On the other hand, for the Italians who are looking forward to St. Joseph's Day (normally observed on Match 19th), it has been transferred to March 15th because it is a bone fide Feast Day. I'll be forgetting my diabetes that day and enjoying the zeppole and sfingi--along with manicotti and other goodies.

Posted: 2/27/08 at 7:44pmThanks for the info on St. Joseph's Day, Dolly. I'll have to pass the message along to my mom. That's usually a big day for our family.

Oh...I did not realize that St. Patty's does not exist this year..that's what happen when I dont go to Church anymore..
I love St. Joseph Day. bec. I went to St. Joseph Parochial School...that's where I first started singing in public when I was 6 yrs old on Feast of St. Joseph in our school auditorium.
Acually St. Patty's is a big day here in Boston specially in South Boston...all the bars are hopping that day! Big drinking day here!!! I just saw two guys (straight boys) tonight at the gym wearing green t-shirt with a St. Patty's logo...a bit early...like my avatar... hey.. I already putup my St. Patty's decoration this morning ..every unit in my condo building has some sort of Green St. Patty's wreath...and I got some cheap St. Patty's decorations at the Christmas Tree Shoppe..lol!

Posted: 2/27/08 at 8:51pmI bought green shirts for the family at Old Navy today. I will have a some corned beef this weekend in anticipation of St. Patty's Day. In Chicago parades have been moved as to not conflict with Holy Week.
