For the love of Lucy, why????!

Can someone tell me WHY commercials are so much louder than the shows they interrupt?

A little hang-over after an insomniatic night is rendered all the more unpleasant by John Basedow, DeVry, or some K-tel crap blaring in my ear!

There used to be a TV that would automatically make the commercials the same volume as the programme they were interrupting. I remember the ad for in in Premiere magazine making me laugh as it said:

"Exactly how loudly do you need to hear about hemorrhoidal itch?"
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Just think of how inconvenient it was before remote control.

I think I really despise John Basedow. His abs are nice, but that MUG! His head is about 4 times too big for his body.

And some networks are MUCH worse than others...

i can tell you, though my science terms are a bit fuzzy--imagine the volume as a readout, like a lie detector machine...during a regular program, the "waves" are much more steady and even and don't spike as often as they do in a commercial--it's definitely intentional, it's loud to get your attention, wake you up (literally) and they only have 30 seconds of time, so they pack much more vloume in than a regular tv program, which is, of course, MUCH longer...

Middie: I was stuck in Washington last night. It was all humid and gross. Some guy was gunned down a block from the hotel the night before and there was all this commotion on the street. Couldn't sleep so I turned to TV.

I do read books, peaches. Dirty ones.

Are there any other kind?
