Mr. Roxy, I find it hard to believe that you will never be surprised again. I didn't say the Pope shouldn't be respected. Most people deserve respect. I do however respect the original poster to title this thread as he felt he wanted to. I believe the Pope was a good man. I also am pleased that Poland is free. However my issue remains that the Pope failed to acknowedge and RESPECT not only a lifestyle I choose to live, but condoned the failure of governments, MINE included, to respect me and my lifestyle, in addition to turn a blind eye towards other issues that don't directly affect me. Too much of the world's miseries throughout the centuries have been initiated because of religion and there seems to be no end in sight. Just take a look at what occurred in Florida this very week and the power their influence had on our Congress and President. All of it done in the name of religion. It is my right to hold Frank Perdue in higher regard than the Pope.

"However, he is a world leader who deserves respect for the good he has done."

Is he really a world leader? I would think that he is the leader of a religious cult - Not the world, because he certainly is NOT MY leader.

Please, people, don't be so offended. The man is old. His time is pretty much up. And, honestly, what good has he done? He lives rich, while Mother Theresa, who did MORE than the Pope could EVER do, lived a life of poverty. You want to respect someone - respect her - not a man who's ring you have to kiss because he and the Catholic Church think he is equivelant to the God that you worship.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I'll miss Frank Perdue more than I'll miss the Pope. There will be another Pope in a couple of weeks. There will NEVER be another Frank Perdue.

"Spooky - If you can tell me what is wrong with that sentence, perhaps you can win back a little of my respect"

Uhhh...half the world doesn't believe in him...that means people who believe in Judaism, Eastern Religions, Islam, Baha'i and Atheists, probably don't relate to the leader of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Vatican City.

And the other half not knowing what he does or how he got there... The nomination and election of the Pope is still shrouded in secrecy. Although there is still the sacred chair that a pope must sit in to verify that he is indeed a male (because a couple of times they apparently elected some female popes and that was horrific). And most people don't know what the Pope actually does other than signify a leader. The Catholic Church is the largest and wealthiest private organizations. The Pope is essentially the "people person" a representative.
I have the utmost respect for Pope John Paul II. His foreign policy with bringing about the end of communism in Poland was key. But he's also the Pope that came short of an apology for the atrocities of the Catholic Church during the Holocaust.
The fact that the Da Vinci Code is still on the best seller list and has spawned so many off shoot books, is a bit of a litmus test for the state of the church in the US.
Like the priest at Easter Mass said, "so who's last time in church was Dec 25th" about the half the parish raised their hand.
And for those who want the title changed or edited. Sorry, no. LIAM, stop PM'ing me your gibberish.
There have been many topics, thread titles that are offensive or can be misread or misinterpreted. If my second sentence was "the pope doesn't do sh** anyway" then you can hang me.
But for the next X amount of weeks, we'll be bombarded with Pope talk. And if you're offended, well don't read it. We're all supposed to be adults. The fact that people felt it necessary to comment, makes it "controversial"
So yeah, let's remember those folks who aren't as politically or religiously connected.

I know you said "probably" but I couldn't resist. Frank Perdue died

"Among those at the square Friday morning was Rome's chief rabbi, Riccardo Di Segni, who said he came 'to pray here in the piazza as a sign of sharing in the grief of our brothers for their concerns and as a sign of warmth for this pope and for all that he has done.'"

I just want to say that some of you people make me sick. You seem to cherish the fact that you can be obnoxious, and you roll around in your bile like a golden retriever on a dead fish.

When you click "Post Message", are you satisfied that you have shared a coherent argument with the world, or just pleased with yourselves because you've rattled a few cages and been as vile as possible.

Just remember, karma's a b*tch.

I find it very interesting that you didn't answer my question. The easiest way would have just been to say you made a mistake, as at least a billion people have at least some idea. But instead you decided to create some verbal rhetoric that answered nothing. You said half and half. Add two halves together and you get a whole. The whole populations. Now if at least one person is aware of what the Pope does or how he got there, than your statement is void.

And interestingly enough, the heads of all the other major religions here in Poland have been honouring the Pope, namely the Islamic and Jewish Communities. There have been prayer vigils and special services for a man that has done so much for this country.

And by the way, I don't think anyone doubts that The Pope is real, and yet you said ""Half the world doesn't believe in the Pope." By not believing, that is claiming he is not real. Those people don't believe in his religion...

I just love people like CK who considers people obnoxious simply because they don't believe as he/she does. Typical.

No baddad... That's not it at all. I consider the people whose posts are solely intended to shock and offend as obnoxious. Thanks for picking me though. I love you too.

And, for the three of you on this thread who are enjoying the fact that you are the centers of attention.

Look around this thread... see the number of unrelated and politically diverse people that are all being drawn together, for the sole purpose of calling YOU inappropriate and obnoxious.

Then perhaps CK your should not stoke the fire by continuing to draw attention to this thread (and others)that you find offensive and the posters that you consider obnoxious. By continuing to do so, you continue to instigate those posters to be more and more outrageous.

Asking for civilty for some on this board is like asking a fox not to enter a chicken coop having not eaten for a wheel. Some people can & will not change so I no longer try to have a rational conversation. Such is life. Take care

The saddest part of Spooky's not changing the title of this thread is that we could have been having a discussion about Frank Perdue; which, apparently, wasn't the point of this thread.

WOW. Again, some people on here are ALWAYS looking to be offended at one thing or another. Seriously some of you, GET A LIFE. IF "Forget the Pope..." offends you, talk to your doctor about some possible medication.

I've learned long ago to not pay attention to Munk, and now he's given me another reason not to.

Munk, I was disgusted by this, not because it singled out the Pope, but because it said "Forget..." This post could have simply been titled "Frank Perdue has died." We then could have honored the life of Mr. Perdue, without degrading another dying man.

I don't care who it is, the Pope or a homeless person on the street, I don't think we should forget anyone who is dying. I think anyone who has respect for human life would agree. We don't need medication for that.

For the record... I don't agree with most of the Pope's ideology, but I respect him as a person.

You've being very dramatic about what I said. You need to look up "sarcasm" and try to understand what that word means. I took "Forget the Pope" to be completely sarcastic. But then again, if one simple word like "forget" offends so many people on here, then I'm at a loss for words. People are ALWAYS looking for something to be offended about, whether it's word choice, Sponge Bob Squarepants, or even a musical. People are ALWAYS offended at the dumbest things. There are better thigns to do than to go around being offended at everything. I dont understand some people...
