I'm in a Sinatra mood tonight. What are your thoughts of his work? Have any of you seen him live?
My grandfather remembers paying 25 cents to see him at Radio City.

I love his music. SO many great songs, and no one had a voice like that.
Favorite songs: Summer Wind, My Way, and That's Life

I saw him live in Kansas City in 1981. He was fantastic.
He sang with a big band, and then did his second set with only a guitar accompanying him. Sheer genius, and that's when I really was blown away. No tricks, no "smoke and mirrors" or hiding behind the arrangements. Just Francis Albert Sinatra and a guitar.
And then he finished up with the band again... ending with New York, New York.
One of the best concerts I've been to... ever.

My favorite Sinatra song is a (very) obscure one.
He played the Stage Manager in a TV musical version of "Our Town." I kid you not!
It starred Paul Newman and Eva Marie Saint (did they actually sing??). I'm dying to see this, if a video even exists.
Anyway... he sang two songs in it. One became a big hit: "Love and Marriage" which is the opener for Act II.
The other was the title song, "Our Town." My favorite Sinatra song of all time. Corny and sentimental as it is. It's on his Capitol Records box set, for anyone interested in checking it out.

I rather enjoy his version of "Ole man River"
While certainly not like Paul Robeson, he sings it beautifully.
I also love his "Lady is a Tramp"

When [if??] I get married, I know I want to play Fly Me To the Moon & Almost Like Being In Love. And what could be more fun than putting New York, New York on full blast and doing fake, over-the-top Broadway dances in your living room?
I love Sinatra, but no, I've never seen him perform.
I'm only 18, after all ...Though I swear I should've been born about ninety years earlier than I was. =P
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

Posted: 9/2/06 at 7:34pmSaw him live years ago in Los Angeles (Universal Amiptheatre). I was not a fan, but wanted to see what the legend was all about. He blew my socks off. His voice was definitely on the downhill, but he still had "it". Loved his concert recorded live at Madison Square Garden, the one where he was introduced by Howard Cosell. Some of my favs: I've Got You Under My Skin, Come Fly With Me, Devil Moon (Finian's Rainbow), Best is Yet to Come.

Posted: 9/2/06 at 7:39pmI've seen him live, twice. Once in 1970 and once in the late 80's, with Liza and Sammy. He was great. I love the film HIGH SOCIETY, which would be my favorite with Frank.
