Did anyone hear on the news recently that the minister guy from Kansas came to Massachusetts to protest against a girl's report and then went to other schools? My health teacher was surprised that they didn't come to our school and went to the next town over. What I was most pissed off about was that I saw little kids holding up those signs that discriminate against people who are gay. We shouldn't be teaching our kids to hate. We should be teaching them to be accepting to everyone. In health class we started watching "Anatomy of a Hate Crime"(about Matthew Shepard). We only saw the first 5 minutes of it because it was near the end of class, but I'll write about it when we finish the movie. How could two ignorant people murder someone just because they're gay? That's just wrong. What do you think about this?
Bwaygrl, Fred Phelps is quite famous for his hatred of gays. There has been discussion about him on the boards. Check out the play "The Laramine Project" for EXCELLENT true-life accounts regarding the killing of Matthew Shepard.
Usually he threatens to show up in places, stirs up a frenzy of protest, and then doesn't bother to come. He did that in my town... sort of surprised to hear he's out and about now, parading his hatred.

I saw that on the news (the massive protests over the girl's essay about Ellen), and I was outraged. That is why I don't watch the news.

I'm with you there, Timote. I stay current via the Internet and newspaper and such, but I don't need to turn on my TV and be reminded of just how ugly human nature can get.

Jeez, how did I miss this one? The first time that I was confronted by the "Rev" and his "followers" (BRW- take note of the fact that virtually all of the people that travel with the jerk are family members. Yes,the Phelp's clan really liked the part of the Bible that told them to "go forth and multiply"!), I was terrified! I have never seen such HATRED! They were absolutely burning with it. To be honest, they still frighten me, but my eldest son has come up with a really terrific way to neutralize the "Rev's" demonstrations- he gets a bunch of his friends together and they go and stand directly in front of the demonstrators, with their backs to the idiots! That way, they block much of the media coverage that might occur. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all of the energy that went into that hate was channeled into something good?
I have a real problem with little children holding up signs during a protest that promotes hatred. They are next year's homophobes through no fault of their own.
yea that that's interesting kind of funny but but interesting
This is the same group who, in protests, hold up signs that say things such as:
God Hates America
Thank God for AIDS
Thank God for 9/11
Fags Burn in Hell
Sick.
Their websites, www.godhatesfags.com and godhatesamerica.com, are sad, sad, sad.
