vb, i have no idea what you're talking about. The money goes towards offsetting the cost of World AIDS Day Awareness...a global intiative. Who exactly is marginalized here?

Look into the light on your link. Not a bad thing, but yet marginalized none the less. My opinion of course.

DancinQueen, you need to do a little more to get rid of AIDS than to 'just light a candle' how about for people in general to take more precaution when they decide to have sex. Ever heard of the saying 'if you don't have your parachute,than don't jump'.

vb, again...I have no idea what you're talking about. The closest I can get are the stats about HIV being particularly wide=spread in the African-American community...which is a stat, not correlated to what the money goes to help. Please explain or withdraw your comment.

AIDS awareness is needed in any form. Even if the one demographic that spearheaded the awareness was not included in the "stats".

I think the important point that website is trying to make is that a couple of communities in the US have found themselves highly at risk in recent years and that needs to be addressed and highlighted. I get what you're implying, VBplayer but I don't think they're purposefully leaving out the homosexual community.

This discussion has taken an interesting turn - especially in light of the new Los Angeles campaign 'Own it. End it.' (complete with the phrase 'AIDS is a gay disease')

vb - I really think this falls into the category of targeting certain demographics to get them aware and involved. I really don't see it exclusionary, but rather 'targeted' - much like the LA campaign.

Ok, so maybe my conviction fogged the entire scenario. I honestly never meant to take away from the important message. It is what I saw at the time and it hit me the wrong way. Maybe I should have thought about it before I posted. I posted an "opinion" and as usual, toes got stepped on. Not my intent.

I like it because of how Mimi axed Roger to light her candle and at the end Mimi's life is like the candle and it goes out because of AIDS but then it comes back on at the end! (Spoiler, sorry). Like a candle, which she made him relight at the beginning!

I wasn't clear. I'm saying the candle is like a literary petit four, where it appears to be about one thing, a candle, but it's about another, life or AIDS or a life with AIDS, but it's also a candle.
