At least the settlers have religious reasons (and years back, financial incentives) for going to Gaza and the West Bank. The people I referred to insist on building on beaches that get hit by hurricanes every 2 years for the view. And to be fair, for much of its history pretty much all of Israel was a war zone; some areas were just worse than others.

There was no religios reasons for the Gaza settlers. They were put there to provide human barriers between Egypt and Israel. They've outlived their purpose and it was getting way to expensive to keep the settlement in Gaza. Plus, from what my friends who served in Gaza told me, there was a lot of resentment of being sent to Gaza to protect them.[/off-topic]
I have so much good memories in NOLA. So sad to hear this.

Back to the subject...
I'm afraid this could only be the beginning of the end for New Orleans. It'll take a few weeks for the water to recede (at least), and about a month for the city to dry out, and a year to rebuild. Meanwhile, the hurricane season is still on and 2-4 more major hurricanes are being predicted and any or all of them could hit Mississippi or Lousisiana again. It's a frightening thought that some of these cities could be completely wiped out.

Herd that it will at least 6 month before Nola become habitable again.

Forester, yes there were religious reasons for many settlers. You think it's a coincidence the vast majority of them are Orthodox? They think Gaza and the West Bank are part of the Jewish homeland, so they're entitled to it. In no way to do I support that view, and yeah, they've been more trouble than they've been worth for years, but please don't misstate all their reasons for being there (as opposed to the reasons they were put there).
Okay, done nitpicking.
