Frist breaks with Bush et al over stem cell research...let the games begin.

It is going to take more than this for me to get past Senate Majority Leader Frist's questionable contributions during the Terry Schiavo debacle, but it is a start. Frist has broken with Bush et al over stem cell research policy, endorsing a bill that calls for the loosening of the ban again the use of new lines of embryonic stem cells for research. It is a small step forward, but a huge one when one considers who took it. Frist is an A-List candidate for the Republican nomination in 2008, and by publically breaking with Bush and the Conservative Right, he has placed his base of support in jeopardy.

It works for me on all counts.

I'm glad he's doing the right thing, but he's still an idiot.

The Republican party is breaking down, right in front of our eyes.

But as in any horror movie, prepare for the monster's hand to come crashing up out of the peaceful lake...ONE MORE TIME!

I'm still wAiting for the Democrats to do something other than complain about Bush. They need to take charge.

Hey, if he feels he must pander outside his base (when a vast majority of American support this research), perhaps he'll realize that listening to ALL of his constituents, regardless of party or religious belief, is a valid road to travel. Furthermore, perhaps he'll listen to his constituents on other hot button topics: abortion (right-to-choose), health care for all, gay rights, AIDS education/research...

I do not like the man AT ALL and wouldn't vote for him if someone threatened my life, but I have to at least respect his desire to go against the Shrub on this one.
