re: GOP platform to attack same-sex marriage...

"This [decision] was an opportunity for the Republican Party to concentrate on the issues that bring us together," Executive Director Patrick Guerriero said, as he cited lower taxes, strong national defense and personal responsibility as ideas which bring Republicans together. "The refusal to do so sends a message to millions of fair-minded Republicans that their voices are not welcome in this party."

***How many times has Patrick Guerriero had to say exactly this kind of statement? It's as if he and other Log Cabiners have some sort of morbid self-flagellation fascination. Actually, that probably is it right there...but when are they going to learn that the Republican platform is based on more than these "Fiscal" issues which they think unites them? The uniting mantras of the Republican party have been, since the 80s, ones of "moral" outrage and responsibility.

At least they're making their statement. Try to get Kerry to talk about it.

Depends. If you're running for President, you might want to take a stand on a hot-button issue. And he is against same-sex marriage. I'm voting for him too, but I just want people on this board who are so vehemently for him to realize that he's not as gay-friendly as they want to believe.

Yes, unfortunately as a gay voter I'm being forced to pick the lesser of two evils on this subject. But Kerry and the DNC have also spoken out in favor of civil unions/domestic partnerships.

re: GOP platform to attack same-sex marriage...

Oh, Rath, you know they're waffling on the issue so as not to dissuade moderate/conservative Democrats away from them. Much as Bush ran as a Compassionate Conservative only to show his militant colors after winning, one can expect some fairly liberal policies from Kerry should he win, including more support for some sort of gay-marriage equality.

re: GOP platform to attack same-sex marriage...

Yes they have. But not marriage. So why can't they take that one little step?

Well, it's not exactly as if Lincoln was out there abolishing slavery and advocating exactly equal rights off the bat. NOt to drag the race card into this or the fight they went through for equal rights in this country...but this is just the beginning and you can see there's still a long road ahead.

Mr. Clinton played to our team, as well. Then, when in office, the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy and the DOMA were instituted. I agree that it is suicide to walk toward someone who is openly hostile, but I hardly see the Democrats as having open arms.

re: GOP platform to attack same-sex marriage...

They may not have open arms, but the republicans are standing there with baseball bats in their hands.

I guess I never will understand the reasoning of log cabin republicans. Maybe now they won't completely endorse the Bush ticket. Any log cabin republicans out there care to comment?

Off to London to escape the desecration of New York by the marauding barbarians.

Here's a link to a great site that counters each Republican distortion as it comes up in the media.

Bookmark it, and consult it each time Papa, CKeaton and Rathnait try to demoralize you. Bush/Cheney CAN be defeated. Don't lose hope! Keep fighting the good fight!

I'm not trying to demoralize anyone. I'm trying to keep perspective so we're not all horribly disappointed later on. But forget it. This will be my last post on the subject. You may all live happily with your illusions for the moment.

no, no, Rath, don't stop posting.
It's entirely rational and valid to have these doubts. I'm still waiting to see what's so great about Kerry besides his being the Anti-Bush.

did someone see where the republicans stored their white sheets, hoods, and burnable crosses?

Oh, I hope they make a very strong statement against gay marriage. Preferably one that explicitly compares it to marrying a box turtle, then starts ranting about the cultural divide in America. Then we can all watch their poll numbers tumble and laugh.

didn't you hear? If two consentinga dult men who are in love want legal protection and equal rights for their commitment, then they before you know it, someone will want to marry a goat, a dog, or a car....

MANY 'reasons' listed for denying ME teh right to marry are the same ones that were used to deny interracial couples the right to marry or are 'reasons' that would deny MANY hetero couples the right to marry as well.

broadwayguy2, the Democrats aren't going to let you marry either. Read their platform. You may have a "civil union" if you'd like, but they are against gay marriage. Oops, I wasn't going to post anymore!! Oh well.

It is the lesser of two evils, thank you VERY much.

You don't have to get snippy, but do realize that the word "marry" is erroneous in this case.

It is the lesser of two evils...but history has shown us that separate but equal doesn't work and will eventually work its way through the legal system. Let us not forget, many of these legal battles over this issue right now are in the queue to wend their way to the Supreme Court, where our fabulous lineup of Activist judges such as Antonin Scalia can rewrite the Bible...oops, I mean the Constitution to suit the homosexual agenda.
