They're spreading the fear:

"If Obama gets his way and DOMA is overturned, it would open a Pandora's box for judicial activists to spread same-sex 'marriage' across the nation." -- Peter LaBarbera, Americans For Truth

http://www.earnedmedia.org/aftah1006.htm

A 6-3 liberal majority Supreme Court that results in rulings like one making gay marriage the law of the land and another forcing the Boy Scouts to 'hire homosexual scoutmasters and allow them to sleep in tents with young boys.' -- Focus on the Family Action

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Christian-Right-Attacks.html

"I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that that's where we would go because I don't support gay marriage ... I certainly can express my own opinion here and take actions that I believe would be best for traditional marriage and that's casting my votes and speaking up for traditional marriage that, that instrument that it's the foundation of our society is that strong family and that's based on that traditional definition of marriage, so I do support that.” -- Gov. Sarah Palin

They can not SAY they are for gay marriage and expect to win. But their actions speak louder than words to me. ESPECIALLY by taking this stance against 8 four days before the election.

I swear though, I've been hearing the ads saying "Obama calls Prop 8 divisive and discriminative" and "Join Obama and say NO to Prop 8" for more than three days.

And he can't if he wants to be elected.

rowlinvale, you have heard those quotes for a while. The quote I posted was sent out about four days ago in response to the Yes campaign trying to use Obama to support their stance. Read the blog...

Surely all of you can find bigger issues in this campaign than gay marriage. BOTH parties are against gay marriage.... get over it! Stop making excuses for Obabma and Biden. They said they are not for gay marriage. Period!

Some of my friends are generally against gay marriage in principle, but are also against Proposition 8 specifically because it writes discrimination into the state Constitution.

If asked, they would say they are not in favor of gay marriage, but are more opposed to idea of codifying discrimination, so they are voting No. To them, one idea (gay marriage) makes them uncomfortable, while the other (Prop re: GAY MARRIAGE! (that's what this election is all about!) makes them furious.

73 million dollars have been spent on Proposition 8. Opponents had a slight lead, but each side spent in excess of 35 million dollars fighting for or against the initiative.

Polling has it failing by 5%. Let us hope that the polling data is accurate.

73 million dollars - just think what that could have gone to - schools, medical care, thousands of home mortgages being saved. Instead, it was spent fighting against bigotry, bias and fear.

I hope this effort bankrupts and undermines the Mormon church for years to come. Shame.

My view on Prop 8 is pretty simple - it would legalize discrimination. And, that's wrong.

And, it's so absurd to see and hear these tv and radio ads saying that "Gay Marriage will be taught in school." That's complete BS! Marriage has never been taught in schools...ever!

I've thought the same thing, but it's that easy, heartstring pulling "think of the children!" nonsense that conservatives do so well.

The GOP is getting its Culture War on ...

GOP leader: Rebuild party based on 'sanctity of marriage'

David Edwards and Andrew McLemore
Sunday November 9, 2008

When asked by Chris Wallace what "conservative solutions" the GOP would bring to their current minority-party status, Pence said social issues like "the sanctity of marriage" will remain the backbone of the Republican platform.

"You build those conservative solutions, Chris, on the same time-honored principles of limited government, a belief in free markets, in the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage," Pence said.

The Indiana representative cited the ballot measures against gay marriage that passed on Election Day as evidence of the continuing presence of conservative values.

"There were three state referendums on marriage ... all three carried. The vitality of the conservative movement around the country is very real," said Pence.

Pence is set for the No. 3 spot among Republicans in the House of Representatives, while Rep. Eric Cantor is generally viewed as the heir to the No. 2 position.

These hypocrites need to fix heterosexual marriage, then. No divorces. Punish adultery by death. Invalidate any marriages where one or more parties has previously been divorced.

Until then - it's STILL about the Churches and their misguided notion that their morality is to be foisted upon us all, and regardless of how nicely I'm asked to leave the churches alone, I can't, because this IS their fault.

"Unless you're telling me you're both pulling a "Mr. Roxy" and not voting for president at all this year. Is that how you have balls... "not vote" for either one? Or picking a third-party candidate who is so far under the radar that he/she would never even register a blip.

And just how smart would that be? How "ballsy?" Your vote would very likely put McCain and Palin in the White House."

I never said I didn't vote. Where did you get that from?

Newt Gingrich: "There is a Gay and Secular Fascism in This Country"

Nov 17, 2008

Fascism and homosexuality are like peanut butter and jelly in the eyes of "alternate history author" and onetime Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who kicked off his 2012 Presidential campaign by burnishing his fag-bashing credentials on, where else? The O'Reilley Factor. Here's the whole quote:

"Look, I think there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, to use harassment. I think it is prepared to use the government if it can get control of it. I think that it is a very dangerous threat to anybody who believes in traditional religion. And I think if you believe in historic Christianity, you have to confront the fact. And, frank — for that matter, if you believe in the historic version of Islam or the historic version of Judaism, you have to confront the reality that these secular extremists are determined to impose on you acceptance of a series of values that are antithetical, they're the opposite, of what you're taught in Sunday school."

Is this annoying? But as usual, the gay bashing has little to do with gays. Fox News, aware that it has little more than a month before it loses its statues as White House mouthpiece, is searching for a new identity for itself– and also the G.O.P. Ask Hannity, O'Reilley or any of the usual blowhards what direction they think the Republican party should go in, they'll tel you it's back to the good old days of the culture war. Issues like gay marriage, abortion and "an effort to take "In God We Trust" out of the Capitol Visitors Center", which is what Newt says is the ultimate goal of the evil gay fascist organization.

So, let's get this right– After a stunning defeat by a candidate who ran on a campaign of inclusiveness and moving past the divisive and largely irrelevant issues of the past 40 years, the G.O.P.'s comeback plan is — Newt Gingrich.

Bring it on.

Why don't these points about how most of the heterosexuals crowing about keeping marriage safe are usually the worst poster children for heterosexual marriage ever stick?

I second that Phyllis.

At least when the Democrats commit adultery and betray their marriage sanctity it's with a WOMAN.

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

Isn't Newt's sister gay?

""Look, I think there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, to use harassment. I think it is prepared to use the government if it can get control of it. I think that it is a very dangerous threat to anybody who believes in traditional religion. This makes NO SENSE. What is a statement like "they want to impose their WILL ON US" even supposed to mean? I think most gay people don't care about what religious people think and don't have any interest in changing their minds...they just want to be left alone, marry who they want to, have their rights (what there is of them) left intact and not have religious dogma enacted into public policy. Is that really so bad or dangerous? Is granting someone civil liberties--in any way--a threat to someone else's religious freedom? How do the Gingrich's and O'Reilly's not see that?
