Tom and Rob grinned victoriously at each other. The plans they had for it... They knew exactly what to buy. Liquor. They had always been denied it by their mother, but things were going to change.

"Boys? It's dinnertime."

They groaned inwardly and stashed the coins. The plans would have to wait, they thought, as they trudged out of the barn.

Behind a stack of hay, Maria giggled.

But then the problem of acquiring the whiskey arose. Nowhere would sell it to two young girls. Their only chance was the old cripple who lived on the edge of town. They set off for his house, moneybag jingling.

When they got there, they handed over the money and got the alcohol without any trouble. They dashed off to the woods to drink it, unaware that they'd been followed.

The hunback saw it all, but he let the boys take it. He let them pay for a bottle of his best.

The boys stepped outside the house, and each took a giant swig while bidding the old man goodbye. They took a few steps each and collapsed, dead of the powerful poison inside.

The man smiled to himself and set to work digging the graves.

Boys buried, the man went to rest, leaving his money and the bottle out in plain view. It had been a long night.

The drunk girls stumbled back down the hill, heading in the direction of their home. The rising sun was a perfect bright orb in the sky, fresh light illuminating the gold on the table in the man's house.

Maria stopped, transfixed by the sight in the window. "You know," she slurred. "We could take that and by more tommorrow."
