Oh, Addy, you know full well you were barefoot and pregnant when you made that pie!

Tangent:
Kringas, it's actually TOED but the meaning has gotten skewed over the years and I think towed is acceptable now, though it's not the same origin or meaning, really.

Mmmmm...pie.

The expression is "Toe the line", as in "don't cross the line in the sand, stay with the norm..."

PEACE.

Just imagine you are standing at the line you want to cross. You haven't crossed it yet, but your toe is on the line and READY.

I think I live there. re: Gay Games Chicago!

I always thought it meant tow the line, like in tug of war...line, as in rope...hmmm.

That works for me, too. Maybe why both are ok.

Doodle, that's the meaning it's come to have but it was originally about stepping up to a challenge. I believe it was a boxing term, you'd stand up to the line.

EDIT: This from Wordorigins.org:
Toe The Line
Yes, it's toe, not tow, a common mistake. Toe the line or mark dates to 1813 and is a metaphorical reference to either the start of a race, the runners conforming to the starter's orders, or to soldiers and sailors standing in formation. Many of the early citations are from the Royal Navy and this may be the source of the phrase, although this is not certain.
