Some of your faves, please.
Salon.com article "Whither The Gay Novel?"

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Isherwood's A SINGLE MAN -- probably the best gay-themed novel in my experience, not that I've read a lot of gay-themed novels.

I thought the gay novel was put on hold to focus on getting married.

Kidding. Kind of.

A SINGLE MAN is simply a masterpiece.

Also love THE SWIMMING POOL LIBRARY.

Well, if we're going into one-handed reading, ya can't beat MACHO SLUTS which is every bit as good as it's title.

Ha!

For light reading I love the entire output of Stephen McCauley. His debut novel "The Object of My Affection" is one of my favorite debuts ever. Just ignore how Wendy Wassterstein wassersteined it all up to make a movie out of it for Jennifer Aniston.

"Three Junes" by Julia Glass is one of the best new novels I've read in years.

I love all of Stephen McCauley's novels.

"A Home At The End of the World" Michael Cunningham.

I didn't like "The Line of Beauty," but perhaps I should give Hollinghurst's other books a try.

classics: Isherwood, Genet, Stein and Baldwin. "Nightwood" Djuna Barnes

Yeah, poor old Wendy really trashed that OBJECT OF MY AFFECTION for the screen. I'd forgive the tinkering with the story if it hadn't so totally demonized George and victimized Nina in the process.

I did like THE EASY WAY OUT, too.

Object of My Affection is brilliant. What a great cast of characters!

I love Christopher Bram- his debut Surprising Myself is a great coming-out book. Gossip is set in the early days of on-line hook-ups and imagines an Act Up-like activist meeting a Rush Limbaugh type closet case and the mixed emotions that ensue.

And Lives of the Circus Animals is set in New York mostly among theater folk.

All his books have recently been reissued for Kindle.

I always find it dispiriting when I look for Gay And Lesbian titles in the kindle store -- all that ever seems to come up is soft-core romance crap.

Yes, the movie of "Object" is a hot mess while the book is beautiful, tender and very funny.

David B. Feinberg's hilarious "Eighty-Sixed" is the definitive NYC AIDS activist novel. So effing funny, so gorgeously constructed.

I read Eighty-Sixed and Spontaneous Combustion so long ago, I don't remember a thing about them. I need to pick both of those up again.
