Gender & Theatre Study? Gallatin NYU?

Okay so, I'm a women's studies major but (clearly) I have an immense love of theatre. I've always wanted to blend an academic study of the two somehow.
Has anyone successfully done this? Have any of you taken a gender & theatre course? Or maybe a directed study? Is it possible that some school may have a specialized gender & theatre program? I know NYU has a school of individualized study, would something like this be an option there?
Any response would be helpful! :)

EDIT: okay here's another shot - has anyone taken anything theatre related at NYU's Gallatin school?

I'm thinking of applying to Gallitan's program or Tish's program, I don't know yet, because I want to like you mix theatre with something else (social change in latin american countries). But because many of the drama programs at Tisch are audtion based, you'd only be able to take entry level classes. But I do know that Gallitan has many theatre workshops for the individualized study majors. Me personally, I'm probably gonna audition for Tisch and if I get in, transfer to Gallitan after my first year so that I'll still be able to take advanced level classes since I've already completed an entire year there...

Hope that helped

You could probably do something like that at Gallatin, but it might have to be more of a theatre study as literature rather than performance. I can't really help much (I'm going into my junior year at NYU, but I'm at CAS, although a good number of other colleges also have an individual studies program as well, if you'd like to look into that), but it does sound fascinating. Good luck!

Thanks, dalefully. Yes, I was thinking more literature and other non-performance aspects of theatre study...
Thanks to aniala2009 as well!

I go to Vassar and we have women's studies and drama (a more academic study of drama combined with performance aspects, blah blah blah) and the opportunity to create an independent major. Because we have no core curriculum, there's a ton of flexibility in creating your own path of study...

The former lilprima2b... I can't figure out how to get my password emailed to me, so here we go.

aniala, if you do get accepted into Tisch then decide to transfer to Gallatin after freshman year, you would not still be able to take the classes that drama majors take. All studio classes would be off limits to you, and you would only be able to take the classes offered in the Open Arts curriculum for all NYU students other than drama majors. So, no, you would not be able to "take advanced level classes since I've already completed an entire year there...".

If you want to have access to the actual drama curriculum that majors take, then you need to apply/audition to Tisch as a drama major and then you are able to take a double major or minor in another subject in CAS. It is not possible doing it the other way around. You must be enrolled as a Tischie drama major to take any and all studio classes.

I think you might be better off in Steinhardt than Gallitan for a Gender and Theater study. They have a less regimented theater program than tisch and generally allow you to take classes from the other schools so you could take gender classes at CAS, and I *think* there are some classes combining the two but I am not 100% sure, there aren't enough for a whole major I don't think but look into it.
Gallitan is usually for really interesting mixes of majors, it might work for you too. Call someone at each school in the advisors office and talk to them. Steinhardt for sure has some really nice advisors, not sure about the other schools, except CAS I have heard it is impossible to get a good advisor but no harm in trying! The NYU website has a loooot of info once you poke around for a bit too
