This is the way this word should look when you're done typing:
DEFINITELY
The word should not look like this: "definately."
Thank you.
You know, it's just 'definite' with the 'ly' on the end. I don't see why people have so much trouble.
they should add a spell check feature to the board -- I know my fingers move faster thatn I like sometimes and I am certainly guilty of this -- ***Sorry***
yes KMF you are, u just finished misspelling the word "that"....LOL
j/k
Zola- For a minute there I thought you needed me to take dicktation! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Amen, Zola.
Hey, we all make mistakes at times. I don't see anything wrong with that. But some people need to open their dictionaries.
I will "definately" remember how to spell that next time.
Zola, give up. This word is consistently misspelled on both ATC and BW...along with quite a few other words, I might add.
And not just there, either. It's on a lot more message boards that I have stumbled across, too. It drives me nuts.
I will NEVER give up.
As well you shouldn't.

I have always been a reasonably good speller, and one of the reasons is that I read a lot as a kid. So even if I didn't learn the spelling rules (such as they are, in English) I instinctively "knew" when a word looked wrong, because I had seen it before in books. With the constant reinforcement of wrong spellings on message boards and chats, that subconscious edge is being lost. It is NOT ok to consistently spell a word incorrectly. Yes, we know what you mean, but that is not the point. The kids who don't bother to learn how to spell are going to find their career opportunities diminished because of the heavy reliance on computerized written communication, regardless of the field they choose. I'm convinced everyone here is intelligent, but frankly, it makes you LOOK stupid, and that's going to bite you in the future.
You go, Sunfish! You're exactly right. If you have a little child, or more likely if you're an aunt or uncle or godparent to a newborn, give them books and read to them.

Thanks for posting that. I actually can never remember how to correctly spell that word. My poor spelling bee champ days are far behind me! In any case I think this will be useful knowledge for me in the future. Hopefully I'll remember it now...

This list of frequently mis-spelled words showed up on one of my email lists some time ago. I printed it out and try to keep it close to my computer, although the chaos periodically interfers. It was actually compiled for English as a Second Language students, but it seems some of us need nearly as much help! Some of them are tricky....I know for years I could not spell "maintenance". Don't know why it eluded me. But I finally memorized it!!!
