George Carlin on children and dirty words

Finally, I have seen my philosophy articulated in print! I raised my kids according to a similar principle, and today they are free thinkers who don't tend to trip over buzz words. This is from an interview with Carlin in today's Salon.com:
"When my little girl was growing up, we cursed around our house and she heard me curse. She was 9 years old when the "Seven Dirty Words," so-called, case hit. We told her, "Listen, Kelly, we don't mind you using that kind of language among people who don't mind you using that kind of language. But you go to someone else's house and you're not sure how that mother or father feels, and most of them won't like it, that's not where you say it. You don't go there and insult other people and violate their own rules that they have. You're at school or in a setting where that language isn't called for or accepted, you honor what's going on there. But there's nothing wrong with the words. They're fine. They will not hurt and neither will the things they represent, which you'll find out more about later."

george carlin is a god. he's not the god, but he's a god. my best friend from childhood and i can still recite almost word for word "occupation: foole," "class clown" and "am/fm." and they are still some of the funniest things i've ever or will ever hear.

Posted: 4/3/04 at 9:26amIn 1971, Carlin came to Kent State and, among other things, met with my honors English class. For one entire heady class period, it was just George and a small roomful of freshman. The man is wise and his love of language profound. That two hour chunk of time had a lasting impact on how I hear things that are said and read things in print.

Posted: 4/3/04 at 1:27pmI still remember his first album with his classic routines on them . I believe it is available on CD. I believe it was called "Take Off's & Put On's " . Correct me if I am wrong.
