Going in for surgery

Going in for surgery#1

Posted: 5/20/08 at 1:16am

After waiting and waiting and waiting, I'm finally going in for, well...breast reduction surgery tomorrow. Going in for surgery And by tomorrow I mean Wednesday. Just in case anyone wonders why I'm gone for a little while.

I'm excited, of course...and nervous, of course. I don't suppose anyone on here has had the surgery?

Oh, and yes, I am in fact female. ...Just to clarify.

Good luck. I have a friend who had the same surgery and said it was one of the best decisions she ever made.

I hope it goes well! I wish you (and the doctors) well! I am a little envious, I have wanted the procedure for a while, but have to wait for either better insurance or more money.

Again, best of luck to you!

I have, actually. Make sure you eat plenty, try and switch off your sense of humour because it'll mostly hurt only when you laugh, and do NOT go on any sort of hormone-based medication (basically birth control) for at LEAST a year afterwards and DEFINITELY not without consulting your doctor first.

You'll be fine. It's a big change, but it's a good un. :)

I haven't but my roommate did (this was a long time ago) and her only regret was that she hadn't been able to do it sooner. Good luck to you and TRY NOT TO WORRY

I'm with caitiesus. I would love to have it done. I just don't have the time, or money at this point in my life. Besides, can you breastfeed after having the surgery (I mean in the future, when I have kids).

I wear mostly baggy clothes because I hate how big they are. I wish I could wear more fitted clothes, although not those skin tight clothes many girls wear.

Good luck to you and let us know how things go when you get a chance.

Good luck Mythus. I have two friends who have had the surgery. They are both much happier and they look and feel great. I do know the recovery took a little time, so remember to take it easy and follow doctor's orders!

SweetQ - I believe you can breastfeed after having it done.

I'm baack! In pain...but it's getting better. I need to go get someone to open my vicodin, because I can't get the childproof cap open, haha.

And SweetQ...it's 50-50 on whether you can breastfeed. When they reposition the nipple, they sometimes cut the milk ducts (whatever you call those things, I know they have a name). Sometimes you have enough left to breastfeed, sometimes you have none left. If you had the surgery done, I suppose you could ask them to be careful, haha.

Mythus, thanks for answering my question. I'm glad you're back and doing well...and so quickly! I'm sure there are plenty people here that are more than willing to open the vicodin bottle, especially after the "my body" thread. If it hurts to laugh, don't read that thread.

Keep feeling better re: Going in for surgery

btw Mythus - you can ask the drugstore to put it in an easy-open bottle. I have arthritis in my hands and I get all medicines like that. When you get someone to open it for you, ask them to pull out the ring inside the lid. It'll open easy for you after that.

Take care and get well soon!

I hope you continue to recover! Thanks for the info, I have had doctor's tell me information that is different from that (but they seem against the procedure for anyone)
