There's that restaurant that inspired the TV show "Cheers". I think it's called the Cock and Bull.

My favorite place is on the Long Wharf called Tia's.

If you go tot he Quincy Market you'll have a whole host of restaurants to choose from.

Not to make things complicated, but what area of Boston will you be in, and are you looking to eat on or off the beaten path?

I loved Legal Seafood when I was there. They had great lobster.

It was awesome.

Dolce Vita in the North End. You can't beat it. I also second Legal Seafood. Very popular. Fire and Ice is good, but is that a chain? I'm not sure.

Fire and Ice and Legal Seafood are both chains. (Though, Fire and Ice is basically limited to New England).

Oooh I forgot about Durgin Park. Very good, though it's kind of touristy.

Yenta sent me an e-mail informing me that the CHEERS restaurant is called Bull and Finch. I don't know what made me think otherwise.

sorry for the confusion.

My Father would probably love Bull and Finch since he loves Cheers and that is who I am traveling with.

It's pretty much a steak and burger place, but the Boston Baked Beans and the Boston Cream Pie are quite good.

It's also a very loud place, but it is a must-see for tourists.

No, the most WONDERFUL dinner experience in Boston has gotta be The Bon Marche.
Reasonably priced, a sort of indoor whole foods market, only Better, more prepared hot food right in front of you at the stations, and phenominal interior design.

Either there, or of course THE Cheers Bar/Restaurant is always a favorite.

I really think they should go to the CHEERS bar. They have a large selection of beers there and Fabrizio's father is going to need some long cold ones after spending all that time with his son.

"The Bon Marche"

Went out of business. Three years ago.

I just read online that the city of Boston is closed next week. Too bad for Flebrezoi.

You've gotta be kidding me.
Okay, everybody ignore me, because apparently I know nothing.
I went there about 3 years ago, guess I figured it was still open. When I was down there last year I just never checked back.
Well, that's a shame :/.

As the Girl Scouts used to say, nothing gold can stay.

Mike Meyers drags everybody who visits him to the one in Toronto, I found out the hard way, HELLO! Rosti potatoes!

I bet it's still there.

The Bull & Finch Pub is now officially known as Cheers Beacon Hill. It's located at 84 Beacon Street. Only the exterior shots were used for the sitcom, thus inside it looks nothing like the show.

There is also another, Cheers Faneuil Hall, at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. It's also known as "the replica," since the interior looks identical to the TV show.

Some recommendations:
Mistral (on Columbus) - fabulous food and service - pricey, but worth it.
Grill 23 (in Back Bay) for steak and chops and whatnot. Another pricey one, but yummy.
Union on Washington street in the South End. Trendy casual, good food and cocktails.

I don't recommend Cheers. The food is bleh, but if you liked the TV show, it's probably fun for a beer. I avoid it at all costs because it's LOADED with tourists!

Durgin Park - lots of fun. Right in Quincy Market, so there are lots of other things to do. Again, will be loaded with tourists, but I think everyone should visit Durgin Park at least once while in Boston. The Indian pudding for dessert is yummy.

Leal Seafoods is a chain, but has good clam chowder.
For seafood, The Barking Crab down on the waterfront is pretty fun. It's uber-casual - with shared tables and whatnot.

For Italian - the North End is great. You really can't go wrong as most of the restaurants are good. Walk around and pick one. For dessert, try Caffe Vittoria on Hanover. Also, Modern Pastry has good sweets.

Boston is a wonderful restaurant town. I'll offer some of my recommendations to you:

My favorite restaurant in Boston is Hamersley's Bistro. It is in the South End neighborhood and is run by Gordon and Fiona Hamersley. I recommend the Roast Chicken with garlic, parsley, and lemon. There is no dress code, but call ahead for a reservation, especially on a weekend night. http://www.hamersleysbistro.com/

Elephant Walk is great for a fusion of Cambodian / French specialties. There is a location right off of the green line 'T'- first stop in Brookline, leaving Boston. The food is very flavorful and fragrant.

Taberna de Haro is very close to the Elephant Walk in Brookline It is a tapas / Spanish restaurant and serves up excellent, tasty food and great wine. It is a small, but convivial place. Take the greenline "T" from Boston, past Fenway, and get off at the first stop in Brookline (Beacon at St. Mary's).

Olives in Charlestown is star chef Todd English's anchor restaurant. The food there is delicious. Great chowder and fallen chocolate cake!

Rialto in Cambridge is delicious and high end. The location is close to Harvard University.

The multiple locations of Legal Seafoods offer solid food and a great value. I like their baked scrod and clam chowder.

Clio on Commonwealth is a great restaurant.

Zaftig's in Brookine is a great deli and serves terrific sandwiches and breakfast.

Further out is Ming Tsai's Blue Ginger in the town of Wellesley. They offer great Pac Rim / Fusion dishes.

I really do NOT like Durgin Park (Quincy Market) at all. It is touristy and the food is beyond awful.

Oooh I'll have to try these sometime. I live 2 stops from there. Though it is on the B part of the green line, which is kind of important.

Jungle - good call on Hammersley's! How could I forget that one!The roasted chicken is the best anywhere. I actually met Gordon H. at a food show. Nice guy!

Elephant Walk - I used to love it. The last time I was there though, it wasn't so great. Maybe it was just an off night.

And another shout out for Olives in Charlestown. Wonderful food (Todd English's best, IMO) and fabulous views of the water and bridge.
