As of now, you can type in any phone number on Google and a name, address, and map will come up on your screen. (This excludes cell phone numbers) You can, however, ask for your listing to be removed.

I knew having an unlisted number would pay off eventually.
You've been able to do that for years.

I recognize that, but (1) it wasn't as easily accessible and (2) it wasn't as up-to-date.
What do you mean, "as easily accessible"? You could type in a phone number and one of the first results was a phone book result. You could then copy and paste the address found into Google Maps or Mapquest or whatever and find the exact same result. Just because they took out the copy and paste step doesn't mean that it's so infinitely worse than what was already available.

RadiGal, you might want to check your number on Google. For whatever reason, being unlisted in the phone book doesn't always translate to unlisted on Google.
But it's easy enough to opt out.

Kelzama's right. On both counts.
For the record, I googled my number and absolutely nothing came up.
I just googled my number, nothing came up either.
I have a cell phone, so mine wouldn't be there, but I put in my parent's phone number and sure enough, it gave the full name and address.

You are lucky. My parents number comes up, as does my husband's. (Meaning, our home phone, which is not under my name.)
Mine came up with my address from 3 years ago...so it's not that up to date!
I tried again, this time using my dad's parent's number, my dad's number, and then my mom's mom's number.
All three showed up, with their address.
If I could remember our apartment's phone number, I'd type it in... but I forget stuff after a week.
The only thing that could be worse would be if they'd print a massive book filled with everyone's address and phone number in them and just give them to everyone.
Oh, wait, they've done that for seventy years.
where can i find one of those magic books, john?
Let's face it...the phone book is just not cool anymore.
With everything going digital, the phone book needs to adapt or it'll fall by the wayside.
Evolution 101. Those more reflexive to change survive, not particularly the strongest.
does anyone remember the large, clear glass square boxes that used to be attached to those magic phonebooks that john was speaking of earlier? what were they called again?

When I moved 4 years ago, I brought my number with me because I only moved 10 minutes away ... they still have my old address in the phone book and on Google and everywhere online, yet the bill seems to find its way to my home every month without fail. Bummer. :)
