The Godfather Part II Little Italy scenes are among the best photographed films ever. And Pennies From Heaven, Manhattan, The Parallax View, Broadway Danny Rose, All The President's Men, Annie Hall.... the true shock is for a man who shot in the supposed golden age of American Cinema with among a lot of the films considered the best, he was not eve NOMINATED once in that era. How? Anyway, it seems right that for such a dark period in America it was often reflected in the cinemas, full of shadows- a Willis trademark.
RIP to such a great

They called him (not favorably) the "prince of darkness."
I can't imagine the first two Godfather films looking any other way. That's part of the storytelling as much as any other element in the film.
RIP

Willis was nominated for the Oscar twice, for ZELIG and GODFATHER III. He lost to Sven Nykvist for FANNY AND ALEXANDER (which, well, you know, I can't really argue with) and the guy who did DANCES WITH WOLVES (yeah, whatever).
Awards -- whatever. Willis' work will live forever, as long as there are moving images being shown somewhere.
