Hello Everyone.

Here's my story. My highschool is doing Grease this year. We are getting audition packets next week.

You see, I have been doing shows since I was seven, but when I got to highschool I haven't got a lead yet (because they are usually given to upperclassmen).

I mean I'm a junior now, but as a freshman I was the only underclassman bride in "7 Brides for 7 Brothers" and last year, it was between this other girl and I for Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls" (our director told me... he said if there was a 3rd lead I would of gotten it).

Now here is my dilemma... the girl who got Adelaide has never played the "good girl" type, and she has a good chance of getting Rizzo (even though she has the higher vocal range for Sandy).

I would really like to try to secure the part of Rizzo for me (because I am a low alto). Do you guys have any tips for auditioning for Rizzo?

I played Rizzo a few years ago, and the director told me that one of the major reasons he chose me over the 50 other girls that auditioned for it is that I showed the vulnerability of Rizzo. My Rizzo was mean for a REASON (because she had been wronged), and I had a backstory about the characer ready when he asked me.

This is a BIG problem with Grease, but it's actually advice for ANY audition -- show the director that your character is multifaceted. No one wants to see a Sandy who is JUST perfect (hence the ending) or a Rizzo who is JUST mean (hence "Worse Things").

And if you don't get the part it's not the end of the world.

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much!

I think that the advice really will help me. It is so true about showing the character is multifacited.

Ooh... so this coming week are auditions. I'm not really worried for auditions... the dialogue is easy and both guys and girls have to sing "We Go Together".

I know without a doubt I'll be making it to callbacks, but I wish he had everything prepared for callbacks, so people know what songs to work on, etc.

I'll let everyone know more info after the auditions!

im sure this is a little late but anywho i think what captures rizo is the charecter (excuse me i cant spell) if u do a very over the top monologue that shows her dare i say bitch streak and sing a song showing her more emotional side youll get it, bring it all the table and dont be afraid to overact its a great thing to do when going for rizo
GOOD LUCK

Why do i always get the dressing rooms with the hairy boys with backne & Sackne? i dont like vagina stick me with the girls!
