My best friend and I want to go to college together. She wants to go for dance (all dance, not just ballet) and I want to go for musical theater. We're bothing picking two schools to apply too. I chose Cincinnati College Conservatory, and Boston Conservatory. What are some other colleges that both have good dance and musical theater programs respectively?
OCU has really great Dance and MT programs.
Yeah OCU's great! There's also Uarts, Point Park, OU, FSU, and Uni. of Arizona

I'll second (or third!!) OCU. Their new dance school building is amazing.

I agree with OCU, but also UNC (University of Northern Colorado) I have a ton of friends going there for dance and musical theatre.

Do you mean that you'll only be applying to four schools? In my opinion, that is a bad idea. Both dance and MT programs are very selective, and, to be honest, it's not a good idea to base your school selections on where it might be a good match for your friend. Each of you should be researching various schools, to include reach, match, and safety schools (although safety schools for both dance and MT are not actual safeties if an audition is involved). My advice is for both of you to visit College Confidential for some good advice and information, it's a wonderful resource, and it will show you that this process needs a combination of good research, hard work, and a little touch of luck in determining your list of schools.

Well I only applied to 3 and got into all of them for what I wanted.
But I guess I'm just that good.

Congratulations, B3T, but you have to know that that rarely happens. It also will depend heavily on which schools you are planning to apply to, as most of the top programs for MT have an acceptance rate around 10-15%.
Oh, and you're not only "just that good", you're humble, too!
Haha, totes!!
Well let me just say that BoCo has a wonderful dance program and also an amazing musical theatre program. CCM doesnt have a musical theatre class for the musical theatre majors..BoCo does. And it's for sure making all the difference in training. BoCo dance is VERY ballet oriented.
You also may want to take in account the size of the classes. I have friends at BoCo, and while I don't think anything negative about the school (they are very talented and sound like they're loving it there), the MT freshman class at BoCo is at the very least DOUBLE the MT freshman class here at OCU.
And for the record, if you and your friend find two different schools but individually feel they are PERFECT for you and your friend, I hope you aren't completely opposed to not going to the same school. Lol :)
Yeah, our class is large, but its the largest group of talented people I've ever witnessed it one place. hahah
NYU has very, very strong programs in both musical theatre and dance in Tisch. It's a larger university, so the class sizes are bigger but you're always broken down into smaller groups to rotate through classes so there is always a lot of individual attention and specific, focused training.
[Okay. So I'm biased... but I do go here, haha.]
^Don't worry, I think this thread is pretty much made up of people promoting their own schools, haha!
Just out of curiosity for BoCo...
If everyone there is so "talented"...how the hell did they let someone like Constantine Maroulis in?
Just a thought...don't kill me please. Thx.

I have no connection to BoCo, but anyone who thinks that EVERYone at ANY college for MT is talented, is naive. Every school's student body has a range of talents and abilities. In addition to that, BoCo may currently have incredibly talented students but Constantine is in his thirties and graduated more than ten years ago, which means he auditioned close to fifteen years ago. Things change.

Agreed.
This is true. I saw him in Rent before American Idol...eek. Not so good.
Well not every single person is the most talented person ever, you're right. But it's amazing to see that every single person has something different to bring to the department. And to see everyone grow in such a short amount of time already, is great.
Northwestern.
(shameless plug)
But it's true! It's just not BFA.

I love reading these because I am a mesely high schooler so I get all sort of ideas for college (so promoting isn't bad) That is the problem with UNC is they base admissions strictly on GPA and test scores. My high school produces amazing talent though, so go us!
