Oh, okay. Sometimes I have an issue with cuts or changes made to movies musicals, and other times I don't. Film is a completely different medium, and as such, should be used to its fullest potential, when telling the musicals' story. Films are flat and dull, otherwise. Also, there are often numbers that are written, strictly, for the purpose of scene changes on stage (particularly for older musicals, that didn't have the high technical capabilities of today's stages). As this isn't a requirement for film, these numbers are often cut. Sometimes, new numbers are written because they work better in the medium of film (or at least somebody thinks so). Stage presentations that are captured on film or video are a wonderful thing, and I wish they did more of them; but, shows are meant to be experienced live, and while they may offer an opportunity for others to see performances (preserved) that, otherwise, might not have been, they cannot compete with a really well made film, for a pure visual experience. I saw the Jackman production of "Oklahoma!" on stage, and liked it; but I liked the film better. It just has a better cast to me, particularly the Laury!

Heresjohnny - You're entitled to your opinion, but I stil think Moulin Rouge is amazing. It has exactly what I look for in a musical, an enjoyable escape that capture your emotions. Plus it's all about love. I'm a complete romantic, I can't help it. I can see that it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. But I think it's brilliant!

Moulin Rouge is not a movie musical. It's a music video on crack **ducks**

No need to duck from me. I'd list it as my least favorite film of all time (musical or otherwise, and I've seen "The Creeping Terror"!). I couldn't have hated it more. It gave me a headache and I wanted to vomit throughout every grotesque scene. It's a nauseating "film". Film in quotes, because I agree, it plays like a lousy video. Directors just cannot make a good musical film, anymore. It's all about quick cuts (even "Chicago" is guilty of this). Is it too much to ask that when people are singing and dancing that we are allowed to SEE them sing and dance?!
