Two dozen lawyers say it's historically inaccurate for Oliver Stone to depict the ancient conqueror as gay.
This is freakin ridiculous! If there's no proof hi was bisexual, there's no proof he wasn't. And, it is most likely he was. In any event--this is silly!
I hope it sells tickets.

I don't think the Greeks saw sexuality in terms of orientation, anyway. You loved who you loved- and in some cases male/male love was considered superior to the love between a man and a woman, which was merely lust. Philia, as opposed to eros. Though I might be getting that wrong; I haven't studied it in great detail.
My college professor (who was female) said that it made perfect sense--women were not educated, thus men were each other's intellectual equal. Men often had male lovers for this reason. And, yes, they probably didn't have the hang ups that we do today---oh do we have hang ups in our society!!

I think that in homosexual relationships, position was a status thing. In other words, as a general, Alexander would never be a bottom. That lasted way past the Greeks.
I remember learning somewhere that it was more then likely that the Greeks were homosexual. And I'm not sure who said it but I read in a book which had excerpts from Greek writers that were talking about men/men relationships.
Thanks for that, Plum.
In Greece the way it happened was among the elite people it was considered normal to have homosexual relationships. It wasn't homosexual like it would be thought of as being now, because they were still expected to marry and have children. However, in the elite groups they saw women as inferior and thus men would be better and so there should be love between men.

I believe there is documented proof of his bisexuality, but don't quote me on that.
I wish we were more like the ancient greeks. The whole 'gay issue' is really only an issue because...
why is it an issue?

Um...wait. Doesn't there have to be intent to harm in order for a defamation charge to stick?
and seeing how he is thousands of years dead...
Oh, you know some of those generals took the submissive role!! It's so textbook for people in power to want to be controlled or dominated!!

the Greeks are another country that needs to accept that they are no longer a World power.
I remember back when I was in the Navy (90's) We sold a half dozen old ships (frigates and such) to the Greek Navy. We then offered to teach them how to operate the enginerooms, etc. The Greeks responded "oh, what do you Americans know? We Greeks have been sailors for three thousand years!" I swear to God, within one year all those ships were at the bottom of the Mediterranean.
I never thought Alexander was bisexual. I thought he was gay and just knocked-up his wife to produce an heir.

Rodney, what does being a world power have to do with anything here?

No, we're badmouthing homophobes. They just happen to be Greek this time around.

Flaming cheese! It's like if somebody took a match to Rodney's navy stories.
i heard they were going to find alexander's body, hook his brain up to a machine, and moniter as he watched straight porn and gay porn. if he "responded" to both, he's bisexual. if his response to the gay porn was "ew, that makes me feel icky!" then he's straight.
