Is anyone here a fan of the show?
I've been asked to design a set for a fundraiser with GREEN ACRES as the theme. All I really remeber from the show is the title song. I've got the first couple of seasons on DVD, but there's SO MUCH to watch...
If you are familiar with the show and can give me some things that would be needed, I would greatly appreciate it.
I've got a tractor, out-house, out door shower, telephone poles and a pig pen.
All I would suggest is to not forget the "glamor" side of the show. "New York is where I'd rather be" A boa draped over a railing or little things that say "Eva Gabor was here".

The premise of the show was that a New York City man got tired of city life and moved his wife to the country to work a farm.
I don't know if you are doing interiors or exteriors or just suggesting the theme.
The interior of the house was always in a state of being repaired. It was like a small, run down farmhouse. There was a running closet door gag where Oliver would slide the door open and it would run on the track and fall over. The contrast was always interesting because the wife, Lisa, was always wearing very chic New York clothing. So the run down closet always had fancy dresses and furs in it.
Lisa hated doing dishes, so she would throw the dirty dishes out the window. So for those who are saavy, you might have a kitchen window with some dish fragments lying on the ground.
Don't forget Arnold, the pig, and the phone on a pole!

They should update the show with The Donald & Melania
Don't forget Lisa's famous flap jacks!
Yea, got the backless closet...
Love the idea of the broken dishes! Anyone remember the flapjacks used to fix the roof? I thought of thorwing some of those in, too.
There will be a NYC backdrop for one half of the stage, so NY is taken care of.
Flapjacks and broken dishes are in!

Although the exterior/interior of the house was a mess, it was decorated with their Manhattan penthouse furniture. I think they had a lepard print couch. So make sure furniture is grand. There was also a running gag that the telephone was located outside of the house on the top of the pole. Oliver would have to climb it to use the phone. Also another running gag was all their electric devices was on one circuit and certain devices were given different numbers so they would not go over a certain number and short circuit. Which always happened. You had Elinor the cow and Alice the chicken. I also think they had a white bear skin rug in the living room. Oliver had his pitchfork in the opening song.

Why does Arnold have a cricket bat? Is he doing the monologue from Tom Stoppard's "The Real Thing?"
And where's Oliver's red wool vest he always used to wear?
The flap jacks were used as an engine part in one episode.
Cool beans!
I think we are going with the out side, front porch of the house, with a back drop with NYC is the far distance.
I think I'm turning th DJ booth into the outdoor shower.
Thanks for all the info!

TheatreDiva, you have to use some fishline or invisible wire to hang the plates outside of the window to look like they've just been tossed out but are still flying in midair and haven't hit the ground.
Sounds like a lot of fun! Would love to see pictures of the finished product! I used to watch Green Acres with my dad and of course, Petticoat Junction- my dad may have loved opera and NY Times crossword puzzles but he also loved looking at the girls on PJ and Hee Haw!
If you were HIRED to design an event, and if you OWN the DVD's, but are too lazy to watch them, and if you must rely on other people's creativity, then you don't deserve the job, and should quit immediately so that a PROFESSIONAL can earn an HONEST DOLLAR.
^Wow- that wasn't very nice! I'm sure Diva has watched the videos and has well searched his subject because he always does and he's fabulous. I think because there are so many ways he could do it, he wanted to know what everyone else thought of when they think of the show. I was glad to see so many posters willing to help and it's fun for us to feel like we are "part" of the process- no matter how little. just sayin'

I agree with s-mom. It's fun to collaborate and throw ideas out there. It's like when we offer our casting suggestions. It's fun to hear what everyone is going to throw out there. It doesn't reflect badly on TD to solicit ideas.
I want to thank everyone for useful info. It helped a lot and I thank you for it.
As far as you, Paul...
It's for a fundraising event and everyone is donating their time. I never said I was HIRED, so pull the stick out of your ass. I thought I would ask my friends (which does not include you) for a little input so I wouldn't have to sit through endless hours of watching the show. I wanted to know what memories people had of it so I could include those.
Your post is snotty as hell.
Now, go fcuk yourself.
Oh and PAUL: people who OVERUSE CAPITAL letters should STOP telling OTHER PEOPLE what to DO.
And, considering every word he capitalized in WRONG makes it even better.
Well, after figuring out what they wanted, what they could afford and what they were capable of building, this is the set I came up with. The entire thing is up on a riser and there will be a telephone pole re-created around a column in the ballroom. Also, plenty of tress and plants and farm equiptment as dressing.
Thanks for the input!
