TUPELO, Miss. - Bestselling writer John Grisham and his wife will contribute $5 million to a relief fund they established this week at a Tupelo bank to help Mississippians rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.
"We don't normally publicize gifts. It's something we keep extremely private," Grisham said Friday during a conference call with the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal and officials with BancorpSouth.
"But in these very, very rare circumstances — this tragic time — we hope the gift will get some attention and inspire other people to contribute money and help our fellow Mississippians on the Gulf Coast," said Grisham, who maintains a home in Oxford, Miss.

I feel much better having spent so much money on his books! Good for him.

I am prepared to offer Mr. Grisham a full body massage. Like most of its books, the ending will be happy.
Wonderful! Maybe this will encourage more people to do likewise. Trump et al, are you listening?
didn't you see on the news, trump sent a tractor trailer full of his own brand water TRUMP ICE
I'm curious to see how the relief efforts for the Gulf will affect the Jerry Lewis Telethon...

Jesus - that man is stille alive?? I mean we lose Sinatra, Vaughan, Sammy Davis - but Jerry resurfaces every year like another revival on Broadway.
James Barbour just finished performing. Anyone like him?
M J R, unfortunately, a lot of charties have been competing lately... american cancer society v. american heart association
AHA has been putting out ads about how women know to get their mammograms so now they are mostly dying of heart disease. October is breast cancer awareness month and there are numerous walks throughout the country, while trying to promote these walks we are hvaing to deal with a "negative" reinforcment about women's health... both are equally important, but neither should try to promote at the other's cost

James Barbour? Hmmmm, that makes me wonder how the Scientologists are planning on leveraging this hurricane to their advantage?
Jerry Lewis is giving over significant time to raise funds for hurricane victims on his telethon.
Voiceanth. A bit of tactless comment in wake of the fundraising being done for not only MDA but also hurricane relief this weekend. Not to mention someone who suffers diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis and was near death at least once. You can not care for him or his talents (did you know he's the one that pioneered video assist back in the late 60s which is now commonplace today?) but your glib comment isn't called for. Surely there are more productive things you can be doing with your time and energy than to pick on someone doing good in the world.

Keep shrugging, Voiceanth. It seems to be the only thing you're capable of doing that makes any sense.

-It's very true. Both the charity and not-for-profit worlds are becoming so competitive. Money is not only getting hard to find because there's less federal money, but also because more and more of these organizations are popping up...
But on the subject of the thread, it's very nice that Grisham is not only trying to give money to the cause but to also inspire others to do so. That's a very nice quote.

But what about my massage offer? That was pretty nice too. And, apparently, I am very skilled in that area.
Mr. Grisham, are you listening? Wear the stubble!

Now Dolly, you're just being silly. There is absolutely nothing "stunning" about my avatar. I look cross-eyed in it, for heaven's sake!
