I completlely agree with mollyllom. I've been playing guitar since 1974 and the best way to learn is private one-on-one lessons with a long-time player that is willing to teach you. After you have a "few" months under your belt, you should have learned a few different ways to play a bunch of cords, then start watching closely what other guitar players do and try it out for yourself. You will learn that it isn't as hard as it looks, just takes lots-o-practice. Good luck and have fun! :)
P.S. Don't spend a lot on your first guitar, a couple of hundred dollars tops. Trade up in a year or so.
