Hey gang,
I am interested in hearing if any of you have studied at HB Studio in NYC and what your opinions are. I am specifically interested in an acting teacher with whom I can spend more than one semester with. I am also interested in any info on their musical theatre classes, Shakespeare, and movement/dance for the singing actor.
Thanks so much!

I have studied at HB. It is a good school if you choose the right teachers. The teachers can be very hit or miss. They allow you to audit a class to see if you like the teacher and I would suggest that you do that.
I don't think that HB is very strong as far as musical theater. I would definitely suggest a class with Helen Gallagher. She's excellent. Also, Austin Pendelton is good for acting. But you might want to look elsewhere for musical based study.
I would suggest that whatever acting school anyone goes to in New York that they should also find a private acting teacher outside of the school to study with. You will never get as much one on one time with the amount of students in your class in an acting school. You can learn a lot from whatever teacher you might have there but they change and chances are you will not have that same teacher for very long. There are a lot of very good private acting teachers in NYC so along with your regular classes, I would also go private.
